This is the rebirth of the Platts pattern that was last made between 1900 and 1905. The old ones are extremely rare and quite valuable.

The blades in this knife are D-2, main blade has double pulls. Notice that the long pull extends thru to the end of the tang. 410 SS bolsters and liners. SS pinned shield. Red Jigged bone scales.

THe blades occupy the same space and share one back spring. Because of this and the fact that the blades are different thicknesses, this knife requires the use of "catch bits"(spacers added to liners). You can see them in the third image at the top-left and bottom-right near the blade joints.

When I asked where this particular knife is headed, Tony said something about the Carribbean and pirates and ships and stuff :)

You can see some of the old Platts Swellcenter Toenails

Awe inspiring! What an amazing piece of art! Captures the spirit of the oldies.
Avast ye lubbers!!

Outstanding yet again, such fine jigging on the handles and the color of the bone, awesome! Love that matt finish on the blades, Sweeet.

What a piece of work! I've never seen a long pull extend to the end of the tang.

Long pulls extending through the run op is common on very old knives, they did it on Sheffield knives. In this case you couldn't put a long pull in the knife if you didn't do it, there isn't room for it.

Just stunning.

Thanks for letting us see this knife Tony and Kerry.

wow, that's a nice looking knife, nad I don't like toenails! I'll bet the blades are ground thin as paper, with that long flatgrind. Most excellent work sir.

Very nice! One of those things that trips my trigger is when the fitting on the backspring and liner is so precise it makes it look like a single piece of metal. Oh yeah, the rest is pretty, er, sharp too!

A most excellent knife Mr. Bose. One of these days I'll carry one of your knives.

You bring up a good thought about blade thickness. Every new Bose knife that I have handled would cut the dickens out of you if you weren't careful. Tony gets the edges as thin as is feasible for the type of steel that is used. Why? Because it's a dang knife and it's supposed to cuT!:D The thinner the edge is before it is sharpened, the better it will cut.

Thanks for all the positive comments fellers.

I'm a big fan of Elephant toes, Sunfish and Rope knives . . . but this one just took it to a whole new level :D

Wow, I so want one of these . . .

Time to start saving the dollars ;)

That's a tuff knife to build but if anyone can do it right, it would be Tony.

Many good makers and smiths can turn out an art knife. They use materials in combination that will " Set the Hook " . The real art is a plain piece that shows exceptional workmanship with out an ounce or engraving or exotic materials. Tony Bose is still the Master of this craft. His Case/ Bose are a testement to his skill also.
Beautiful Knife !!
