too dull? new blade?

I just got a new Vapor II in the mail, and it's dull as a bowling ball.
I'm glad to hear that their CS is good. Think I'll contact them.
Sorry to hear of your dull Vapor werwoof. Curious, why not just return it for another Vapor? I can say straight out that your Vapor is 1 in a 1000.

...Dull as a BOWLING BALL???...Come on, man...It can't be THAT dull.:D.:D.

Send it back to Kershaw, and I'm SURE that they'll send one back to you that you can shave well-enough with that your face will be as smooth as that bowling ball.:D..:D.

Thanks, guys. I must say that I was really surprised that a Kershaw wasn't razor-sharp out of he box. Happy to hear that this rarely happens and that their CS is so good.
Yes, "dull as a bowling ball" was quite an exageration. It is more like a butter knife.

Thank you for your replies, fellas. :)

Update:
Just got an email from Kershaw, saying, sure, they'll take care of it. Glad this thread was started.
Guess who's a huge Kershaw fan now? :D:D

i just received a new vapor II that was dull as well. it sharpened up to "scary sharp" in just a few minutes on a spyderco double stuff ceramic stone. no big deal, they're gonna get dull when you use them anyway. might as well learn to sharpen your knife if you dont already know how. i get tickeled when i hear of people sending their knives back to the factory to be re-sharpened. but ive never had a problem sharpening a knife. i learned how when i was only a young boy and have got extremely good at it over the years. if i sent my knives back to the factories to be re-sharpened every time they got dull, i would only see them a couple days out of the month because they would be in shipment back and forth all the time!,,,VWB.

I don't know why I'm so retarded at sharpening knives. What the heck is wrong with me?

Nothing at all. I can hand sharpen one to a hair popping edge but I choose to use the DMT Aligner kit. It's easy, fast and you have a lesser chance of putting blemishes on the blade. You might want to check them out. Also a lot of the folks here use the Spiderco Sharpmaker and have nothing but good things to say about it as well.

yea those guide type sharpening systems work pretty good IF the blade edge is ground properly from the factory. if it is ground too steep all those guide systems do is hit the shoulder of the cutting edge and never touches the actual edge its self so the blade never gets sharp. i do like the spyderco sharpmaker system because the knife is being sharpened in a "free hand" style. you are supposed to hold the knife straight up and down and run the edge down one stick and then the other like you were cutting an onion into. if it doesnt start getting sharp in a short while then it probably means the edge is ground steep and all you have to do then is tilt the knife slightly toward the opposite stick from the one the edge is against and then run the edge down the stick. repeat for the opposite side of the edge. what this does is make the stick contact the actual cutting edge and not strike the shoulder of the edge. i personally think the sharpmaker system is one of the best sharpening systems on the market. you get medium stones for extremely dull knives and you get fine stones for finishing your knife with a hair poping degree of sharpness. they are triangle shaped so you can use the pointed sides of the sticks to sharpen serrated edges and then they can be rotated to the flat sides to do plain edges. cant beat that. they are well work their price especially if you have trouble sharpening a knife.,,,VWB.

You think you have problems , I don't use my knives , I just fondle them.

Dave
Me too.:D. For around the house, I do all my non-kitchen cutting with my REKAT Hobbit Fang, (of which I've wrapped the handle with "Agrip"). For my "while out in the world" cutting tasks, I generally use the blade from my SOG Deluxe Pocket PowerPlier tool. I DO carry a couple of my new Kershaw folders, but they, so far, have just been along for "show".:D.

Don't give up on your sharpening ability...As mentioned before, you might want to try a Spyderco Sharpmaker. If you can hold your knife straight while sliding it down the rod, you can get a pretty good edge with the Sharpmaker...It's so easy to use, even I can do it.:D.

I think I could use the Sharpmaker. I've seen it on the New Graham site. :D

DMT Aligner kit? Hmm... Sounds good to me.

Great reccomendations.

I still use my original Sharpmaker, the one that came with a VHS tape for instruction.
