mete has the answer......a three step refinement regime ( where have I heard that before????)
Start at 1600-1650F, with a quench. Then about 50F above critical, with a quench. Then at 50F below critical with an air cool to 900F and then cool in the slack tub.
This will set you up for final HT that will produce a fine grain and fully hardened blade.
