Alright, I give... what's the catch?
I feel compelled to share my story so please humor me as I ramble on about it.
I went on a Spyderco mini binge because all of my friends seem to have one or two or twenty in come cases. I took a chance and bought a Kopa in Pearl/Abalone,a Endura in FRN White Collectors Edition and then the kicker a Cara Cara by Spydercos overseas venture.
I expected the Endura to be a great EDC and it is. Great size and easy to handle but a bit of a reach to comfortably open in a one hand fluid motion. But I am working on it.
The Kopa exceeded my lofty expectations by serving up Mother Of Pearl with such radiance that I would classify it as Exhibition Grade MoP.
Fiery turquoise, reds, pinks, blues and opal white glint off of it at any angle. Truly a very well put together Gents knife, with a whole lot of bang for the buck!
Now comes the kicker. The Byrd Cara Cara. OK I get it. It says China right on the blade. I knew it and don't plan on resale value of it one day so I just don't care.
Until I got it and used it. WOW!!! $26.99 on E-Bay from a distributer and for thirty bucks it came to my home. What a fantastic blade!
I am VERY impressed by the blade. The CNC machine worked overtime on the intricate angles of this offering from Spyderco. It even has a machined file work in the spine for ascetics only! A gift for buying it I guess. The grind on the Cara Cara is without flaw. The edge is the sharpest of all three that I just bought.
The made in China blade is a knock out. It opens with a fluid one hand motion and locks tight as a bank vault. The blade resembles a Pat Crawford knife I bought. Very sexy shape and contours.
Honestly I can't say enough good about this blade.
I feel a bit guilty for liking it so much, and more so for planning on buying as many Byrd models as I can find.
Priced like Frost Cutlery these Byrd knives are a 110% value. And as far as a price to performance ratio goes the Byrd line has it in spades.
Viva The Byrd's!!
Peace.
