Too many Sprint Runs, Dealer Exclusives and Limited Editions?

I wonder if the opportunity to flip them (no pun intended) is why they sell out so fast?

I guess I will just stay subscribed to everything I can and hope another M390 edition 0452 shows up. I think one with both slabs being titanium would be slick, especially anodized. I know some people like the lightweight of CF very much but I love the solid feel of the titanium 0450.

I didn't really have the money to buy Spyderco sprints until the last few years (poor college student previously), so I welcome the variety now. I can pick and choose which knives I like in my favorite steel and color. Really glad BBS had another run of the blue m390 PM2, was finally able to get one of those.

I actually really wish Benchmade would do sprints like Spyderco. Instead of doing a $400 gold class knife in exotic handle material and inlays with a super steel, do more models with different handle colors and blade steel. I think they would have a lot of success if started doing that. There are several models I would be more interested in if they were offered in a super steel and in a cool color but under $200 (that's why I bought a mini ritter).

I'm totally fine with sprints. I think that, at least from Spyderco, they're reasonably priced for what they are, and they don't seem to be keeping Spyderco from introducing plenty of new mainline models.

Slightly wrong i believe. The S110V bluprle versions (manix2, PM2, Military, Native) are neither sprint runs, limited editions nor dealer exclusives but rather production. And not new model but rather just different materials.

Could not agree more. If only they tried different handle and steel versions

I don't think anyone in this thread said that the S110V were Sprints. If you're talking about post #1 the lists are for ALL 2016 models. If you go through the Spyderco you can see which are Sprints or Dealer Exclusives.

I was thinking more in terms of stuff like the Maxamet models and other "true" sprints. They're modestly priced considering how exotic the steels are, and they don't seem to have stopped Spyderco from dumping a monster pile of brand new awesome knives at SHOT show.

If you read post #1 you'll see. The lists are ALL new 2016 models which includes Production, Sprint, Dealer and LE. The Spyderco Sprint Runs have the word Sprint in the description. The Spyderco Dealer Exclusives have a dealer name in the description. Perhaps I should've color-coded them.

Wow there are a lot of Dealer Exclusives that i have never heard of. Good to know. If only Spyderco had their website updated.

  12. Lil’ Nilakka RWL-34 White Polished G-10 Flash Batch (Taiwan)

Note: A Flash Batch is similar to a Sprint Run, but features a brand new design that has not been previously produced. Flash Batches are also unique, one-time-only expressions of a particular model, but are likely to be even more rare and collectible than Sprint Runs. Spyderco is proud to offer these exclusive, limited edition production runs to celebrate the diversity of their designs and stimulate even greater collector interest in their knives. Each Flash Batch knife will be individually numbered for the entire run.

If only the Military was Tip-Down for my liking. But i am on the list for the KW exclusive for Military with CF showside

It looks like knife companies are just trying to market to "collectors". Marketing to collectors is a tried and true means to generate profit, since there are so many consumers willing to buy them. Only time will tell if they are over saturating the market, you should have a definitive answer in about 20-30 years.

Firearms manufactures did this sort of thing in the 70s, 80s, and 90s with special runs of custom commemorative guns every few months. Today those expensive, unused, still in the box, customs generally bring less money than a gently used stock version of the same basic model, and are harder to sell as more often than not they have less than attractive embellishments. If you can find one that does not trigger your gag reflex then you can have a custom shop gun for the same price or less than a one right off the assembly line.

I am sure they are producing whatever keeps demand and sales the highest possible. I wasn't going to get caught up in the LE and Sprints but I did and damn its fun!
