Seeing that we now have 11 stickies, does anyone else think that we have too many?

Don't get me wrong, I like the content of the stickies. It's just that they're getting to be a big portion of the first page. I'd like to see a new sticky with the others linked to inside of it that is titled "These are the stickies - beginners should read them" or something to that effect. As for the latest sticky, the 2011 Mini KITH, I think it's a good idea to sticky it until it's over.

I we put all stickies into just one stickie - I believe even less folks would read them / review them to get a question answered. The end result would be more redundant posts over all in the forum which to me is worse than a little bit of scrolling.

As a new member, I found the stickies very helpful. If anything, in my use of them, I'd suggest having them organized slightly better. That being said, I don't have the time or ability to do that myself.:D
I'd like to see one added with forging tips; forging bevels, tangs etc. And another one for grinders;type, pictures, mods, tool arms,Hp, VFD's, Belt types, etc.
I agree that without them, I'd have had a million questions that instead I was able to answer myself through the stickies, and search.
In fact, a "Search is your friend" sticky would be helpful too. Even if it's just added to the Standard Reply to New Knifemakers.

I voted no. I've read through every one of those stickies multiple times as I try and learn. I understand the question however. Even with all this knowledge pinned, you still see multiple threads asking questions that have been answered in the stickies.

I suggest we put all stickies into just one stickie -
I like this idea - it was done, maybe in WSS
Put the stickies, all within one line with sub levels.

I'm all for adding more content and organizing it well, but I don't want to scroll past it each and every time.

Put the announcements into a section that I can hide - that stays hidden until a new one is posted.

Yes, I think there are too many. I don't think we should do away with their content, I think they need to be condensed into 3 or 4.

Yes there's too many stickies. No, this is not a double post, I just wanted to give my opinion again. ;)

This is a problem that i've taken care of in the H.I. forum.
We had a load of important info that i condensed into just one sticky and named it "The Link Library".
Of course, we did have to leave the safety thread stuck out in the open and somtimes leave new stickies there for a bit of time.
It sure does make the first page look a whole lot nicer and is easier for those with mobile devices to load.

I voted yes to condense, but I do not agree with doing it by putting all stickies into just one or a few stickies. Having separate theme based threads aids information management and availability. It would be GREAT though, if there could be one master sticky folder of sub-forum with all the separate stickies in it! That is what I Forge Iron does, http://www.iforgeiron.com/forum/6-blacksmithing-general-discussion/.

But are the newbies actually reading the stickies? Seems like a lot of questions keep getting asked that are covered in the stickies...

My "All about salt baths" thread, is one that I would vote to unstick and let it move on. It is rather specialized for a sticky and full of information that can be easily obtained elsewhere. I think Stacy's idea for the stickies is to provide basic information to those new to knifemaking so the same topics don't have to be rehashed ad nauseam, which I agree with and I don't think an in-depth salt bath discussion quite fits the bill.

I'd lean to consolidating them a bit. Maybe we could have half as many but not get rid of any content.

I use them as references all the time and would like to see them around.

i agree with what phillip said about noobs reading the stickies. i think a lot of noobs overlook them.

i think the stickies would be better at the bottom since most members who have been here a few years like me seem to scroll past them. that way they would still be there so anyone who wanted to read them still can.

I do not believe that we have too many stickies. i would just like them to be more conspicuous and divided so i can see where the magic really starts.

It's much more difficult with the new software to see the new posts.
Not as obvious, to me anyways, where the stickies end, and the meat begins.
