Hi Everyone. In the last three years I have somehow ended up with a Sebenza, a Strider SnG, and a HD-7. That is alot of money spent on folders. At times I feel guilty. Did I over-do it? Has anyone been here? Thanks.

You're really at the wrong place to be asking if you "overdid" it with knives. To most of the guys here, I don't think they'll ever have enough knives ;)

In all seriousness though, if you actually feel that your finances are a mess because you can't stop spending on knives, then maybe, just maybe, you need to take a break.

I was in the same place as you, feeling a little guilty about all my purchases. To make up for it, I just took a break for a little bit. Make up a budget for your knives and stick to it.

Its only too much money if its cutting into your bill paying funds or if you're married with children, its depriving your family of something they need. If neither of those apply, then you've got a good start on a collection but have a lot more to buy...

I understand completely, knives are a lot like drugs, you always need another fix. I also think they are more expensive than drugs. True Addiction sho nuff.

Go ahead, feel guilty and get another fix that will make you feel gooood again.:D

I got an Airkat monitor, Strider pt and Extrema Ratio MPC all in the same month earlier this year. I really felt that was just way to much paper spent on blades but..... I got the bills payed eventually :D !!! if my other half ever finds out how much there worth she will skin my head for sure though  !!!

This year I have acquired:
A Tom Mayo.
A Kevin Wilkins.
A Charles May.
A Rick Hinderer.
And a Jens Anso.

Lycosa, if those are your entire collection, or typical of what you buy, you've done very well. It's only a problem when you don't know where your money went and all you have to show for it is a lot of glitz, and no good, solid working knives.

No IMO you didn't over do it... as long as you can afford it.

Now tell me, what are your overall impressions of the SnG and the HD-7?

I've been after the SnG for awhile.

If those are the only knives you've bought in the last three years, I'd say you are very frugal. But it all depends on how much you can afford, what other hobbies you're willing to sacrafice in order to endulge your knife collecting, and what your collection goals are.

When I get to 1000 knives (a ways off yet) I plan on trimming out some of the unwanted junk from my Accumulation and becoming more particular with my purchases. Until then, I'll continue to buy knives of interest that are within budget.

How to know you overbought, when you have to sell knives to pay bills. That's a heartbreaking situation that I see often in the "For Sale" forum sections. I'd rather not have a knife to begin with than to have one and lose it.

Good Luck,
-Bob

I dont think you made a bad mistake, those knives with probably sell for at least what you payed for them- as long as you took good care of them. Ive done that in the past and sold them off to pay for bills, then a year later I see people selling thiers for 50% more.

Those are 3 good knives. I think your fine. I usually spend more than that in 6 months but to each his own.

Spending "too much" is too much, depending on your budget and priorities, regardless of what it's spent on. Did you use all of your extra cash? Or did you accidentally spend some of payroll that should be going to your hard working employees? Big difference.

Thanks all! It is a lot of fun-this knife stuff. JPD1998, The SnG is more of a workhorse folder and the HD-7 is more of a serious folder, if you know what I mean and I know you do. Now I'am look'n at a Busse. Oh NOOOO!

You started off well. You will really be in trouble when you start looking at custom knives.:D

You are so right, I just posted one of my customs in the Gallery, it made Knife World and Knives Illustrated. Me just a little proud.:D

No: My wife does not know how much it cost and I am not telling.

A little over a year and about $6000 poorer but a lot of nice knives. I don't think you went overboard, you're just gettin started and Heaven help you and us all.

I hope she doesn't read the thread, you know your knives BTW.

PS: God has been good to me and my family.

You're correct. You should only own one knife.
