Too soon for my mark?

So I showed my finished knife to my father the other day. He really liked the way it came out, so it got me to thinking that I'd make a knife for him....And would probably make one for a few family members as well. Considering I've only completed one knife so far I was wondering if I should worry about getting a mark done yet or not. I have a few other knifes I need to finish up and get ready for HT and they'll be on to the finishing up stages from there. Am I getting ahead of myself here by looking to start putting a mark on knives I make? I know I have a ton of improvement as far as making knives go, but then again I don't know if I want to make a knife for a family member and not etch it.

Fletch...just do it man! Be proud of your best work and let everyone know it by putting your name on it! It'll be good for referrals as well! :D -Matt-

I'd mark anything you made as long as you put full effort into it. I wish I marked some of my earlier knives.

I just finished my first knife around Christmas. It was a gift for my Step Dad and I put my Makers Mark on it. I am proud of it and think it was good enough to put my name on. Do It!

I finished #6 and am currently working on getting my mark setup (gotta build the etcher). I'll be marking it and some of my previous work as well.

Another vote for marking what you make. Think about it, when you become famous those first knives will be worth their weight in gold. ;)

Fletch,
Know how you feel ... I felt the same way. When I finally decided to get my mark made I mentioned that I had let knives go without one. Ernie was shocked and said that I should not have let that happen. I felt much better about getting my mark. Now I look forward to completing another knife I am proud to put my mark on.

I was able to get the knives back and get them marked.

GET YOUR MARK!

Dave

If I only marked the perfect knives I've made there would be a drawer full of unused stencils with my name on them.
Marking the knives you make is more about celebrating the effort than it is a claim of perfection.

Now what about this idea? I was considering putting under my name "custom knives". Is that or could that be viewed as "improper"? Maybe some people will associate custom knives with the fact that each one is build for a specific customer or something? I look at it as it being a custom knife because it's designed and built, like basically anything else custom. But is it something that can be misconstrued or am I thinking too much into it?
