So I took a break from making knives and decided to make a hammer. This is my first attempt it is out of 4140 steel and its 4.5 lbs it was totally hand made no power hammer just a good striker..aka my brother......tell me what you all think?
The first thing I noticed is that the handle and the drifted hole appear to be round. Is that the way they are? Also, it might be good to chamfer the edge on the flat face a tad. using it as it is will leave really bad marks when forging.
Thanks. Yes the drifted hole and handle is round. I think I need a little more work on the handle to make it more user friendly. I am going to look at some of the hammers I already have and replicate the handle. I also need to chamfer that edge on the flat side like you said. I now realize it will leave ugly marks when forging. I always appreciate all your honest feedback thanks.
