I took apart my Military to clean since it was feeling a little gritty. I had done the pivot screw and was working on the screws for the stop bar when one of them stripped to the point where I can't adjust it. I decided just to blow out what I could around the pivot area and put it back together. Once re-adjusted to eliminate play and the screws were set, I noticed the lock was not engaging nearly as much as it was, barely getting half the width of the lock bar under the blade tang. It appears to be locking up securely, but it kind of makes me hesitent to use the knife for the time being. I tried a few hard flicks to see if that would set the liner back to where it was and now it's just fully engaging, but still slightly more to the left than before.

Do you think the knife is good to use as is, or should I try taking the pivot screw apart and redoing that? What about sending it to Golden for adjustment? Would it be possible to get the smaller stop pin screw through the mail?

Thanks in advanced.

Call the factory in Colorado ask them what they'd charge for correcting the knife. Grab your old one for the time being. It seems that you have done the best you could do. Another choice would be to buy the stripped &/or bad parts from SPYDIE and fix it yourself.

It's all up to you - of course. Fix the knife.

The good news is that knife is made in the USA and the screws are easily replaced. It uses a 2-56 screw in that stop.

On the lock up. It almost sounds to me like there is a bind of some kind, either with the washer not in place correctly or perhaps the pivot barrel or stop is not seated as deep as it needs to be to pull it all together as it was before.

I would suggest taking it apart one more time to examine it and then putting it back together one more time. Those screws are easy if you cut a slot in the head of it providing its sticking up high enough to do it without hitting the G10. Otherwise don't try it but if it is you can make it a flat head screw slot long enough to back it out and replace it. Just get you a flat head 2-56 screw from Spyderco. They may just stick that in an envelope for you if you ask nicely.:D

I got the pivot worked back to where it was pretty easily, but I don't know how I'm going to get that stripped screw out. Can't think of anything I could use to cut a slot.

You could try using a 2mm metal drill. Carefully drill in the middle of the screw, and slowly. At some point, the "head" of the screw should just fall off (since the screw itself has a slightly smaller diameter than 2mm). You can then just remove the G10 scale and use pliers to get the screw out of the pivot. Worked twice for me, but of course, do at your own risk.

If one side comes off it may be possible to turn the stop to loosen it rather than the screw but it may just turn the screw also.

In those times it probably best to leave well enough alone unless you just need to get it out for some reason. Otherwise you just make a mess on the finish of the screw causing sharp spots or raised up rough areas you can feel with your fingers during use.

I tried a bunch of different screws and nothing worked, so I think I might just send it to Spyderco and see what they can do, maybe taking a look at the pivot too just to double check it. Need to pick out a new edc in the meantime.
