Took my son Mace (age 2) ,And my German Shepherd Zeus out for a Hike--Waco,Texas

I have been slowly increasing the distance Mace walks each time we go,all the while making sure he has a Great time.

It was 65 degrees and a Great day

Looks like a good time for Zeus out walking with his pack :) Love the pic of Mace with the snacks! I remember hikes with my son that went further than most kids his age due to a little food kept in the pack :D

Nice photos! Always great to take advantage of the nice weather for an outing. Have you put any thought to Mace's first knife? I know at age 2 it's way early, but I figured a knife guy may have already been pondering it. My son's first was a Victorinox Camper, mostly because that was my first as a kid.

Great pictures. It's always good to start the youngins out early. I got my son (4.5) out yesterday (sorry no pics) for a hike. We spent a couple hours looking at animal tracks in the snow. Much to his dismay, we never did catch up to the pack of coyotes he was trailing.

Thanks for all the kind words

Mace is my second son from another marriage

First one is 20 years old--so this is like deja vu--as in all over again

I have a box full of smaller knives ready for Mace when he gets older

My goal is to get him loving the outdoors now and only having it grow as he gets older

very nice- start 'em young I say! :D we started hiking very young, my daughters I started very young and now my grandson too

65 degrees you say- nice

good looking boy and dog you have, dr. bill! thanks for sharing.

Great stuff buddy, making memories that young Mace will never forget.
Zeus looks awesome as always ! 👍

Fantastic photos.

You are a wealthy, lucky man. Mace and Zeus are so fortunate to have such a caring Dad.:)

(but you really need to carry a Siegle out there!)
:D

Could not have said it better myself. I got two dogs and three boys myself. It doesn't matter how bad the day went when I get home....it all starts to chip away with smiles and wagging tails. Oh yeah, the wife is there too ....

Thanks to you both

There are a lot of caring people on this forum

This is a city park and Texas has a law stating you can not carry a knife with a blade over 5.5" unless you are on your own land or private land--so no Siegle's at the park

I took Mace and Heide(Zeus's Daughter) back to the park on Sunday(1-31-16)

The plan was to see how far he could hike and still have fun

He made the first leg on the trail fine--but I thought it would be too far for him to turn around andf hike back so we got off trail and made it to the playground

Mace loved the slide so much he climbed up the stairs 5 times--So much for being tired

As far as knives I brought a Hultafors and a Schrade 42--that I got in trade---VERY sweet and under-rated knife

I've been thinking of getting the schrade 42 for my daughter, how have you liked it? She's got an old hickory 7" now that I feel like this even though smaller could replace it.

I got it in trade and was planning on letting it go--that was before I tested it

Very Sweet knife for the price

Cuts well--and feels great in hand too

Schrade just released the same model with a non recurve blade-

and the sheath is EXCELLENT as well.

and check this out as well

My son just turned two and it's hard to gauge when he is getting tired. We have yet to hike far enough that he wanted to turn back. It's usually because his mother is concerned she will have to carry him. I'm surprised that Texas has such a knife law. Is the law statewide or just in certain parks? Do you know of it ever being enforced? Thanks for sharing the pics.
