I noticed my Spyderco Temperance hanging up in my kitchen today, tucked away in a corner and unused for quite some time I decided to give it a sharpen and take it out !

We followed the river down to the inlet...

So while the dogs played I decided to scout around for some fire starting material !

I found some really dry old mans beard, I've never had any luck with this stuff but this was super dry so I decided to give it another go. I also found some Fatwood which I shaved up with the Temperance and added to the old mans beard !

Took about 4 strikes from my ferro rod before the old mans beard caught, I was pretty impressed !

Damn, look at that sky time to start heading back !!!!

Within seconds there was snow falling, you can just see the first flakes on my sleeve. Before long it was coming down heavy just shows ya should always be prepared !!!!

Maisy is such a good older sister :)

Great pics - I've never owned one of those Spydies, looks like a cool blade though.

I'm not a big fan of stainless steel but that VG10 takes a razor sharp edge really easy. The knife was designed to use as last ditch defence against wild critters like mountain lions and as such offers many hand positions on the excellent handle, I have found that this trait also makes it a great bushcraft knife !!!!;)

Great pics yet again, Pit. Are those stairs just in the middle of a woods, or is it a park? Kinda odd if ya ask me :D

It's a capital regional district park ! Nearly every mountain and forest over here is within park boundries !!!

AS my username would indicate I am a very devout Spyder-head. Spyderco knives are what I live for in the material world ;).

I've had a set of the FB-05 fixed blade Spyderco Temperance models since 2004. I use a serrated model of the Temperance in my kitchen quite a bit and I am very satisfied with it. I've used my plain edged, fixed blade version of the Spyderco Temperance for all kinds of outdoor activities and I've never been disappointed at all.

I've always designated my 2 Spyderco Temperance models for my bugout/survival bag for over 2 years now and I wouldn't leave home without them. Like the one brother stated about VG-10 blade steel>> it is a very good stainless that takes a wicked edge and holds it for a long time.

Spyderco is soon to release their new Temperance 2 fixed blade model with 5 inch blades and a Micarta handle. Needless to say I'll be getting 2 of those also for my User blade arsenal.

The Spyderco Temperance along with their other fixed blades are a well hidden secret for the survival minded and the outdoorsman. They make great kitchen knives

I'm not much of a Spyderco fan (based solely on looks ) but I did buy a large Manix Sprint Run and it is a tank. Haven't used it for too much yet, but warmer weather is coming......

I got the large Manix sprint run too. As Doc said, TANK! spent a few hours on the strops and it is painfully sharp.

love the dog pics Pitdog! keep em coming!

When Spyderco first hit the fixed blade market back in the late 90s they seemed to have one common denominator in mind>> FUNCTION

Most of Spyderco's knives are quite functional. Their fixed blades are excellent for most any kind of survival/outdoor cutting chores. The Temperance fixed blade model really has a great ergonomic handle, superior blade steel and the TEK-LOK sheath has served me well.

It is an excellent hunting knife, skinning knife and it's great for cutting up fish steaks.

The new edition of this knife is due to be released sometime in the next 2 months from what I'm told. The new one will have a Micarta handle.

Great little trip there Pit.

I'm chompin at the bit to get over on the Olympics myself. I love it over in the mountains on the wet side.

The fixed blade temperance is a great knife. I have one ,but since I can't replace it rarely take it out. Helluva slicer though.

Great pics Pit  Your picture stories with Maisy (and now Snicker) always make me want to hurry up and get a dog, so I can take it hiking with me :)

Great photos! Thanks for sharing. Where are you?

Oh, and that knife looks like a good little tuck away that can actually be usefull in the field,I'll have to check one out thanks.

I love my firesteels too.
