Took the Bravo 1 for a walk.

Thanks tknife. Politics. Useless thread really. Can't wait to get my Bravo-1

Yep, I don't care what tests the Marines performed on it, they don't have to share it with me. It's just a solid design with great ergos, and a cutting machine! You'll like it :D

Me either. I'dda been after those features with or without their recommendation. Plus, when they placed the order, after using several knives to death in the test. Nuff said. JMHO, of course.

Looks like a great time! I may have to get myself one of those. Can anyone point me to the lowest price?

hey TKknife were did you go hiking the area looks nice.

sasha

That was at Rocky peak between San Fernando and Simi Valley. It's close by and I usually end up around there when I can't get away to a more secluded spot.

Prices vary by handle material, I got mine here http://www.dlttradingcompany.com/index.php?cPath=24_342 If they are out of the handle that you want, order it anyway and they will get one for you.

Thanks for the link. Now the question is, With my 3/16th RD-4 do I really need one?:p .

Probably not, the Rangers are awesome too. But you will most likely have that nagging little feeling until you do get one :D

Really. What's funny to me was what they came out with was a good solid knife, not to big and really friendly in the hand (from the pics). Kind of flies in the face what you might think they would come up with (ie huge macho looking blade coated etc). I guess that shows they were really USING them:D

I think a little bit of skepticism for the "SuperSpecialSoldiers use our knife" is warranted, given the history of such claims. It seems like the company gets to slap the banner on their box/website/tattoo, knives get issued, and the guys in the field find something else that suits them and the mission. People who frequent this forum have seen enough of Unit X endorsing knives, so they want to know the actual tests and figure out if they were reasonable, if the knife is well suited to such tasks, etc.

Regardless of how it happened, I think Bark River makes a pretty good product, and I'm glad lots of people are getting what looks to be a very functional blade - especially guys in the field putting their lives on the line.

(once I break down and buy one, I'll upgrade that to "Very functional blade" ;) )

I just got mine in Green Canvas today, and when I got through the ton of tissue paper they pack it in, I just held it and said "holy s$%t". That thing is one stout piece of steel with a good feeling handle. I will post somewhere on here once I get to play with it in the woods some. I love the knife, but I think that the thumb ramp needs to be moved forward on the blade about 1/2", and it would be nice if the micarta handles were left in the rough like Ontario's Rat series blades. That being said, I love this knife. Got a couple for friends as well, and they had the same reactions I did. I do need to do something with the sheath lips before they eat chunks out of the micarta around the "self guard".

tKnife,
That Greco is just about the same knife as my Tops Bush Ranger (52100 steel). I sure my Bush Ranger will make just as good a partner with my Bravo-1 when I get it! I do not have any Greco knives but I have been thinking strongly about getting one if I can afford it.

Thanks for the photos.!

Ciao

:D

bigbcustom, I thought the grips were a little slick too. Some 220 grit sandpaper fixed them right up. It also gave them a lighter color which I like.

muzzleup, I'm a big fan of TOPS blades too. I happen to get the Greco in a trade on the day I was heading out with the Bravo, so I took it too :D
I have gotten several knives that are about the same size lately, it's getting too hard to decide what to carry!

Which is exactly the kinda knife all the mil guys I speak to say they really use. A good sharp tool. Your post was DOBA. A usable knife.

tKnife,
Yeah, I have been getting a lot of knives in the size range too. They do all the work I need and don't ever seem to get in the way. I also just got a Micro-Tech Currahee which seems to carry pretty good for the size of the sheath (bulky).

I checked the prices on the Greco like you have and was surprised just how affodable they are. I think your knife was retail at $85.00. Now that's not bad at all!

Again thanks for the pictures.

muzzleup, what do you think of the Currahee? I have been thinking of getting one, but haven't really heard anything about it other than the write up in tactical knives. Is the edge thick, or thin? Does it balance well in the hand? How is the comfort and control when performing finer tasks with it?

Thanks,

Brian

I got my Bravo-1 today, awesome knife, I am gonna "rough up" the Micarta a little as others here have done, it's a tad to slick for me. Other than that, this knife is one real solid field knife.

I may get a leather sheath, I have never really taken to kydex, the factory sheath has a VERY positive grip on the knife, no complaints about it, just personal preference.

I may hold off and see if the kydex grows on me though.

All in all, BRK&T has a real serious winner!!!!!!!!

Bigbcustom,Do you really think the sheath will damage the mircarta handle? I don't know, I new to this but it don't seem likely. My handle on my Bravo-1 is G-10. It's tough stuff, just slick.I may try to bead blast it.
