Well I finally ordered a KMG this morning. Should be here by the end of next week. This is my first grinder and I thought long and hard. I liked the coote but I know from past experiences once I had the coote I would have been thinking "what if". Go large or don't go at all!!!I picked up a lesson 1.5hp/1725rpm motor in MINT MINT condition off ebay for $76.92! I will be running another outlet this weekend for my new toy!

That's a fine machine you are getting. Check out the 2" serrated rubber wheel that replaces the bottom alum. one on your new grinder. Rob sells them. They are a very useful addition to the KMG.
Have fun with your new machine, Fred

I actually ordered a smooth 2" to replace the bottom wheel. I would love to get the small wheel attachment and a few wheels but I will have to wait a bit.

congrads
I bought a bader a month ago. I love it .. I'm just starting to really learn
how to use it.

I know I will waiste some steel. I purchased 21' of O1 in various sizes. We will see how it goes. I will be calling Pop"s to buy some belts to get started.

Good to hear that. It's really nice for handle work. I find new uses for it daily.

Cool  Congrats on the KMG I love mine, the first time I fired it up on full speed it kind of scared me :D You're gonna have fun with it trust me.

Make sure the lazy fedex driver in middletown doesnt pull a doucebag move and leave a note cause it was too heavy :grumpy:I had to chase mine down

Ask Rob just to make sure, but with his new AC controller, you may be able to go back and retrofit your grinder with a variable speed box later. I have one and it uses a Leeson motor. You are gonna have some fun now!!!! :D

I remember you mentioning that. I was thinking I may feel a bit under the weather arrival day!:D

Yeah they are pretty heavy!!! Like a tank!

I agree the first time i started at full speed i thought to myself "holy sh%t."

Mine has a gorgeous rust patina on it that ive been meaning to clean up for some time, but itll be at least 5000 years before the 1.5" solid tooling arm rust through, so i have some time....

I just got the small wheel attachment for xmas and its a fine little piece of tooling. I do lots of sculpted handles and it really comes in handy. I also have a serrated 2" wheel up top on my platen that gets at least as much usage as the platen itself.

Awesome. If I could justify the purchase, I would definitely get one for myself!

Alex

I have justified it to myself everyday. It is justifying it to my Wife that is the issue.

You have to play the lotter to win it right?? Maybe the state will be nice and just give me the money then I can have a KMG.

What she doesn't know won't hurt her! I actually paid for mine with the money I made on ebay sales in the past 6 weeks so no harm done to the savings account.:D I may not wear the pants, but one thing is for sure. MY KMG IS ON IT"S WAY!!!

See the thing is I have learned not to Argue with a Pregnant Wife, nor spend money with out asking her.

Makes time in the shop much more peaceful.

I hear ya there! To quote one of my co-workers " It's easier to beg for forgiveness, than ask permission". I found out that works for him, but not for me! :D -Matt- Forgot to add that I was lucky and got most of my major stuff before I was married and had a kid!

I am debating on painting or just spraying some rust preventer on it. I have a big tablesaw that I have to spray down to prevent rust on the cast iron. With all the humidity we have during the summer months. My next step is to run an AC duct to the garage.
