Spring Fuller? Thats what I ues to start the tang on my fixed blades. I'm guessing thats what your talkin about.

Yep its just is little spring fuller I made from scraps I had on hand. A guilotine may be a better option if one has the money or parts and time. Actually a guilotine with a few sets of dies would be great to have for all sorts of forging chores.

I use a guilotine fullering tool.... nothing fancy, just some 1/4" 1095 I had around, rounded the faces welded some mild steel rods to the ends of the base, some black pipe guides to the top blade and a thingy to go into the hardy hole.

thats the one thanks what is this guilotine tool you got any pics o one thanks chris

Mine's kinda like Ray's but imagine that the top "blade" slides up and down on rods that are welded to the sides of the bottom "blade". The top blade has black pipe welded on the ends for guides. I call the fullering tool like Ray's Godzilla my "scissor" fuller.

Yup, pretty much it.. :)

Touchdown! :o Oh I mean that is a cool design. I was having trouble visualizing so used your description to wip up a quick 3D drawing. Here is what I made a few weeks ago but yours is much simpler and gives better visibility to the work. Thanks Will.

Thanks guys efleming those 3-d drawings are very nice. I tend to thing one advantage of the slide guilotine over the pivot type would be with the slide style you would have even pinch. Where as with the pivot style like Ray's or Uri's you will end up with a uneven pinched area. For anyone thinking about making something like this keep in mind it can also be used to draw out larger stock. In fact it makes drawing out much faster.

Will have you found your design to be fairly sturdy? I mean can you really wail on it?
Here is a pic of Ray's.

William,

As long as I don't misstrike :barf: I can wail on it pretty good. I had to learn to weld better ;)

I'm going to use my scissor fuller for drawing down in front of the ricasso, I think it'll be much better than my current method of the "drawing/pushing hammer ninja death touch strike". :D
