I've been reading up on knifemaking for a little while, both internet and good ol' fashion books. I won't have space & cash for a grinder until later this year. But I'd like to get started making a few knives with hand tools. People were making knives for 1000's of years before the KMG came around, right!
To make some basic knives, probably kitchen and camping types, I think I will need the following tools to get moving:
Seems like the hard yards will be performed with the files or rasps. Can anyone advise what types & lengths I should round up? I'm happy to invest in both quality and quantity. I'm sure they won't go to waste after I get a grinder. I'm a proponent of good quality tools that perform well and last a long time, I never regret them.

- Something to cut the profile. Hack or jeweler's saw? I do have an angle grinder, but can't use him inside the house according to my missus....
- Vice to hold during filing & sanding. The Panavise looks useful for knifemaking & lots of other stuff I do.
- I've got a nice Festool 15+3 drill. A drill press will need to wait until my new garage is built. [New garage = Yee haw & dancing a little jig]
- Some files & rasps.
- Sanding blocks maybe? I've used these for woodworking and I assume knifemaker's must use something similar?
- Sandpapers in a variety of grits. Any particular type?
- Am I missing anything, other than consumables (epoxy, handle finishing oil, etc)?
