tool steel bainite?

I've recently read about L6 steel being heat treated to produce bainite, a much tougher form of the steel. Can other higher alloy steels such as A2 benefit from a hot salt bath/interrupted quench to produce bainite?and if so is it serviciable as a blade material?I realise it is not as hard but toughness in a long blade is what I'm looking for.

Of all the discussions of bainite the steels are not "much tougher " only moderately tougher .Kevin Cashen has made blades of laminated L6 with a O1 core .That's one way to do it . Some tool steels are appropriate for bainite most are not .Choice of steel and it's heat treatment depends on exactly what you're using the blade for.
