Tooling on a woodcraft style sheath?

I have three new embossing wheels for my overstitcher and I have been experimenting with them.

I did some embossing (I am loathe to call it tooling out of respect for those that tool well! ;) ) on the latest Walt Sheath.

What do you think? Is it too much - okay - not enough? Comments welcome.

Notice that there is tooling on the sheath (front and back) the firesteel loop (although it looses its tooling a bit when it is wrapped and a firesteel goes in) and the dangler.

That looks great. I've looked at those before. Guess I'll have to get some.

Thanks, now I have to buy something else. LOL

I like it.
Very classy.
I don't see any reason that a user sheath can't be good looking as long as it doesn't stop one from using it as intended.

I think it's a good amount of tooling. Enough to make it look nice, without going overboard. Nice work.

Beautifully Simple...One thing I think a lot of people do when they first start tooling is over do it. You didn't. The only thing I would add to this sheath would be your maker's stamp.

You've really got a knack for leather work man, now you need to branch out and start making some possibles type bags or maybe belt pouches. You can do a lot more tooling on those.

I like it. It's subtle and looks good in detailing your work without making it an untouchable work of leather art.

Question-Did you use a light touch when marking the leather or is that the way it comes out regardless of how you use it?

I pressed HARD - but I likely did not case my leather enough when using this. You can't STAMP it like you do a tool - so I think the leather needs to be a little more damp when using one of these embossing wheels.

I like it. Being a fan of celtic art, I'd even add a three-cornered knot on the sheath, or get crazy and put on a Book of Kells-style zoomorph. Maybe a dog or bird.

Oh yeah - well who asked YOU GUYS?!

oh... wait... ;)

Thanks for you opinions - I am glad Walt is open minded - it allows me to experiment a bit.

Hey TF, any chance you can rephrase that? It just doesn't sound right:foot::D

That looks pretty slick man! No wonder Techna said you were making some pretty sick stuff. Good job! You need to do a How To or a WIP thread for slackers like me.

I like it, not to much, not too little. I think it adds a lot of character. Nicely done.
