Show off the tools you use to sharpen your Buck.
My picture will follow: but I have a vintage 1982 Norton Tri-Hone with new stones. A coarse/fine crystolon (Jum-3), a fine India IM-9 and a 800 grit sandpaper stone set up like 334 Dave's . Others I like using are a Norton IB-8, Spyderco fine ceramic, a old 4X8" Translucent Arkansas and a strop . These will get the job done for me . DM :)

Well David I do not have a photo but I use a Buck Knives Arkansas Washita Honing Stone and Buck honing oil I bought back around the seventies, I have added a Black Arkansas stone and along with my belt can do a fair job on the BUCKS.

It is plastic with brown bottom and clear lid it has gotten cracked and the oil has dissolved some on the plastic. A while back I got a used 118 from Larry and it must be the real hard steel judging by the sound it makes on the stone, takes me back in time.

Stockdog, I've not seen the box w/ the brown bottom, mine has a red bottom, clear plastic lid w/ gold lettering . Is your can of honing oil metal w/ reddish oil ? Thanks, DM

David the bottle is light brown plastic dark brown lid, I have also seen clear bottles and the oil is red like transmission oil. I will recheck the box but as I remember brown bottom, clear lid and gold lettering and foam for the stone to set on.

I think I wore out a couple of Buck hones trying to put an edge on 440C or whatever it was they used around 30 years ago. Currently I use DMT hones for 99% of all my sharpening, including my 110's in 420HC (good) and CPM-154 (great).

Stock, I've seen the stone w/ the foam, mine didn't have it . ED, Yes, the knives back then would have had 440C blades . To sharpen the steels of today diamond works quicker. Thanks DM

I get my Bucks razor sharp with the Spyderco Sharpmaker. I love it and it is so easy to use.
