Toooj's Intro to Knife Sharpening Video

Great video. I have the Lansky, and I had decided to sell it recently, but I'm glad I still have it. I'm in the process of teaching my son & some Scouts how to sharpen, and it's really handy for that. Good ol' stones are still my favorites, though.

+1 on the Spyderco sharpener. I've got one of the early examples of this and it still works great. However it looks like Spyderco continued to refine this system. I really like the features on the present one. Maybe enough to spend the money to upgrade.

Orca,

Can't go wrong with the flat stones...it does require some skill but once you have it you don't lose it. Every youngster/boy scout/girl scout should know how to use the flat stone method. Good for you on teaching them.

sac troop,

I have the original with the cordura case and the new model...the only thing I don't like about the new model is they don't include the coarse diamond hones any more... you have to buy those separately. However, the improvements on the newer model are worth it IMHO.

Two sharpening angles, a holder that places two stones side by side to provide a wider surface. Those two features alone make me think I need to upgrade.

I have the Lansky and the Sharpmaker. With all due respect, and there is respect, I recommend that the Lansky sharpening instructions\procedures be re-read.
