  • Today marks the 24th anniversary of 9/11. I pray that this nation does not forget the loss of lives from this horrible event. Yesterday conservative commentator Charlie Kirk was murdered, and I worry about what is to come. Please love one another and your family in these trying times - Spark

Do kata with them?
Denis

Not formal kata. I suppose freeform flow drill is an accurate description of what I do. I've also found that doing simple motions with a kukri at low speeds improves technique and muscle strength. I need to do that more often. I've also found that swinging a real heavy kukri around at high speed improves strength and speed. A little while back I had a PT session that was basic karate. During one part they had us punching x-ray sheets because they make good targets as they won't hurt you and they make a lot of noise when you hit them. I'd never done karate, but many people became convinced that I had because of the strength and speed I was putting into it.

I'd use the wooden kukri Bawanna made for me for sparring, but I've had no success finding a partner. I've also had no luck finding a local instructor, so a lot of my learning is solo, or from corresponding with my mentor and reading his book on the subject.

I do not have my Ang Khola anymore as it was passed down to a kid deploying....heck, i have a Zippo which has passed down through assault/spike/udt since at least '68 date on one name and going to a kid as soon as he completes Parris wheel fun.

But my memories suggest the first one a more massive up front more lethargic feel while this WWII has a feel as if more mass closer to hand as if actual length about at center of blade elbow, at least until full commitment to blow.

Studied shotokan way way back and had master classes with Nakayama mid-70's....being an empty hand way, we used zero weapons....no t-shirts and no ads at time, either.

But would find either knife just fine for deployment and likewise the BAS even though never laid hands on one....fine solid no frills khukuris which do what khukuris have always done...and do it well...which is most all large knife chores plus small axe...
