Top 3 Spydercos (Function)

Here's my totally unbiased opinion :)

I seem to have migrated away from the wide leaf shaped blades for some reason. My current favorite users-

Southard
P2
Delica

Edc: Spyderco Techno
Hard Use: Spyderco Gayle Bradley
Hybrid:Spyderco Southard

This is a tough one for me, and these are in no particular order:

1. Dodo - I use mine almost daily for opening boxes and packaging.
2. C95 Manix - I get great leverage on this beast for heavy tasks.
3. Caly 3 (or 3.5) series (any) - very versatile for every day carry with great ergonomics.

This could change depending on the day you might ask. I could also easily have added the Stretch ZDP-189; the Calypso; the Military, the Para 2, and the Ladybug.

Is there a poll? Like I said, this is an interesting thread .

Some models keeping popping-up but it seems ONE is consistently being mentioned. . .

The reason I created the thread was to see what people felt was the their top knives as far as function. A lot of people have already listed the knives they like and what they use it for which is the exact purpose of the thread. I noticed you posted twice and have yet to list anything. Are you going to post your top 3?

I only own 1 Spyderco, so any other opinions are based on reputation only. At the moment the Southard is my favorite EDC knife. I've heard really good things about the Sage 2 and Paramilitary 2, and I like the looks of the Manix 2 although I haven't even heard so much as a review of the latter.

Edc heavy duty-Para 2
medium duty- Sage 1
light duty - Salsa ti-ats34
lighter still - Squeak

There are so many great Spyder designs that are functional dreams. But a few of mine are as follows:
(1) the C-44 Dyad ( Spyderco's only double bladed, full sized model)
(2) The fixed blade Temperance 1 model
(3) The Catcherman
I picked those 3 off the top of my head because they are 3 models that I have done so much with. The big Dyad model is such a useful multi-purpose folder and I've heard that they are about to launch a Sprint run of a new version of that super classic.>> My older fixed blade Temperance 1 model gets so much use and has been used so much in the past 4 to 5 years that I just can't imagine doing much food and general purpose work without it>>> and the Catcherman model is not only a great fish fillet knife it's also a general food handlers dream knife; Especially the older fully serrated version, AUS-8 model.

There are other great Spyders that I find extremely useful. My current main EDC is my model C-60 Ayoob PE with the G-10 handle ( the newer Sprint Run version) << >> I've been told that it is a great fish fillet knife by 2 very trusted friends. I also find many of Spyderco's Hawkbills to be very helpful companion blades> particularly the Harpy and Spyderhawk models

But frankly I find most all of Spyderco's great designs and their collaborations to be extremely functional and useful blades. I don't know of many of Spyderco's models that aren't functional except maybe the Spot and Toad models.

Based on the Spydies I own...

1) Para2--ultimate EDC knife
2) Chaparral--perfect gentleman's folder
3) Ladybug3 Salt Hawkbill--amazing little knife, my only SE blade-love the hawkbill!

I own several other spydies, but these are the 3 that consistenly trip my trigger! I plan on eventually picking up a Native5 and a Stretch...and a Domino Flipper when it comes out, so my opinion my change, but as of today...this is it!!!

Sorry if I don't seem to be in line with what you had intended. I have only two Spydies.

My reason for appreciating this thread is purely from a design-study perspective.

Delica 4 for EDC
Salt (either Dragonfly or Salt 1) for exercise
G10 UKPK where locking blades are frowned upon

Sorry to cheat and list four:o
