Top 5 SAK tools

It's original purpose is as a parcel hook. Odd that Victorinox would introduce a parcel hook in 1991, long after that packaging had fallen out of favor, I know. That's it's "intended" use, however. With a bit of imagination and ingenuity though you can do all sorts of things. SOSAK has an article on it, and the various uses that people have come up with for it.

P.S. My top 5 SAK tools would probably be the same as the OP, save the fact that I'm comfortable with either the backspring awl or in line(a la Farmer). There are a few that tie for convenience/most used in my experience though.

A comment I want to make. I see that some people really like the tweezers. Well, they may have different tweezers than I, because mine are pretty useless. I prefer a small hemostat for things that tweezers should do.

In relative order of frequency of use.

small knife
saw
large knife
cap lifter/screwdriver
awl/reamer

In the field, I carry a Vic Camper. EDC is usually a Wenger SI (which only has 4 implements to start with) or Vic Spartan (least used implement= corkscres).

Knife blade
Scissors
Saw
Tweezers
File.

By the way, does anyone know what the heck that dull hook is useful for, on the SAKs that have it? Anything at all?

I have surprisingly used it a ton. Usually to yank on some sort of wire or cordage and save my hands.

my top
Saw
File
Can opener (best I've used. I used to dip too, I opened up soda*coughbeer* cans daily to spit into)
awl
chisel (seriously... love this tool)

In my Swisstool X, my most used tools are:

Pliers
Large Flat Screwdriver (mostly used for light prying)
Scissors
Awl
Other screwdrivers - small, medium and philips head (I know thats not one tool but what the hell)

Obviously I wouldn't be without a blade on a multitool, but I actually don't use mine much because I always go for my edc (Delica) or sailing knife (Pacific Salt) instead. I do like to have it there as a backup though in case I somehow lose my knife, which is not out of the question when sailing a catamaran in rough conditions.

bottle opener

The awl/reamer is really good as a striker for a ferrocerium rod, saving your blade. The dull hook is perfect for lifting hot dutch ovens lids off a campfire.
