Top Five Traditionals

Choosing my overall "top five" traditionals would be quite a challenge, but identifying the 5 knives I carry the most is easy. Most of my knives are carried a week at a time according to a rotation schedule, but I have 4 knives that I carry every day, independent of the schedule, so they get carried FAR more often than any others:


And my fifth knife is my first ever knife that was carried every day from about 1960-1969, so that knife got a huge head start over every other knife I've eventually acquired:

For 2019 I have a tally, most days anyway, almost all of the year, how many times I carried what. (45 knives over 286 counted instances of carry... some spanned several days, but I don't know if this covered all 365 or not)

Top spot was the crkt/Folts minimalist. If thats not traditional enough for you, then ignore it, the sway back moves up to #1.

#5 spot was a titanium gents folder that I know I can't post here so wont try, then these three tied for #6, in this case #4/#5 spots;

2020 being one of the best years I've ever had(yes really) was far far to busy for records, and for edc and knife pics most of the time so I don't really have anything to go back and count from, but the ones I remember the most are these, in no particular order.

(Technically thats knives #s 2 to 6, my number one most carried knife all year would get me thrown out of this forum )

Late to the party here, but great idea and love the Knives!

i still have two old Buck Knives that I carried as a kid, but since I stepped up my game in the last few years and started collecting GEC here’s my five.



Also, with a few very recent adds I know these will bump out the B&S, the 62, and more often than not the 86... so it’s only a matter of time (the 29 is just too versatile for me not to carry).

I have had the case 5233 the longest and the Case Barlow with 154-CM has been getting most of the pocket time lately. I really like the 154-CM steel.

I’ve been wanting to dust off this thread for awhile. It’s very entertaining. Only one of my top five remains from 2021 - the ever present 86 (post 94 on page 5).

As for the 2023 “Top 5”, I’m going with 4 tried and true members of the knife drawer - 86/47/38/TC 15 - and one newcomer, the 85.

What is the 2023 TOP FIVE for you?

Thanks for the restart Jon! I remember this thread and I had only just started collecting so it was a lot of fun to see what’s changed for me. The 86 was my first so like you, it’s unchanged. And my collection has grown so much it’s the lone carry over.


I have a custom SAK that probably beats out the 25, but that red is just too pretty to have have it in here.

Edit: While I don’t carry them often because of their heft, these two technically outrank them all.

That’s a great looking 5 (plus the 2 Indian honorable mentions!). I do believe the TC has some staying power in that group .

Good looking fixed blades! And it’s definitely not beyond me why we all want a few more !
