Just wanted to see what are some of everyones opinions are about some some the best fixed blade knives on the market. Either production or custom all inputs are welcome, Also I'm looking for an excuse to buy a busse FBM ;)

My only experience with fixed blades is Busse, Swamp Rat and Scrap Yard. All are top notch in my opinion!

Buy a Busse if you want one but you don't need a Busse to have a dependable knife. There are a lot,too many to name, great fixed blades, both production and custom.I could spend $50 and have all the knives I would ever actually need, but what would be the fun in that.

Just don't get caught up in the hype that any knife is the be all end all.

There are too many customs to even begin to list, take a look at the exchange under the knifemakers for sale section.

production knives,

busse and family
entrek
esee
kabar
chris reeve
ontario
cold steel

those arn't in a particular order just what i thought of listing them.

my personal favorites are esee and chris reeve with kabar as the distant 3rd.

take it easy
cricket

The only excuse you need is that you want it and you can afford it. LOL.
My latest fixed blades have been from KFU customs and Backwoods customs. Both are here on the forum.
Both are excelent knife makers.

There are a lot of knives out there, and the 'top' to one person is usually different from person to person...

Anyway, here are some good production companies...

ESEE
Becker
Condor
Busse

If you want custom, just look in the makers section here. There are plenty and I am sure many of them will be able to get you what you want.

Thanks for the input guys, keep them coming. I own a Ka-Bar and it is a fantastic knife and It has been very reliable on many camping trips, yet I guess I want something higher end and "bomb-proof". Something I can use in a post-apocalyptic world lol ;)

Well, there might be more high-tech knives available these days, but I doubt you'll find any more proven to be "bomb proof" than a Kabar. Ask any of my father's buddies from the pacific what post apocalytic life felt like, and if their knives survived the day. I would have no trouble trusting one for use within the parameters of their design.

From production knives the following are some of the top:

Busse
Swamp Rat
Scrap Yard
Fallkniven
Bark River
ESEE
Becker
Entrek
Blackjack
Chris Reeve

I have a Strider WP-C that's 1/4" thick at the handle(cord wrapped). She cuts like a brick, but I guarantee you can pry a tank with it without breakage:thumbup:.

Let us know when you break that Ka-Bar...........

All kidding aside, I have a couple vintage Ka-Bars, one from my father I have had for 30 yrs. But also have another 100 or so fixed blades. Just buy the one's you like that fit your needs. You might like to try a few brands, many having been mentioned above.
Blade steel is also fun to fool around with rather than specific brands. M2, M4, S90v, S30v, Carbon / SS, etc. Its a huge list........ really
There is no right answer......Enjoy the testing.........
Oh, and buy used if you plan to really use 'em. Then sell or trade if it does not float your boat.

Customs I like...
Dan Crotts
Bruce Culberson
Bill Siegle
Bob Dozier
Andy Roy(FIDDLE BACK FORGE)
Ray Lacinico

Hi Knight88 -

I have been very impressed with John Kiedaisch of JK Handmade Knives -

I have several of his creations. Many of his designs are originally sent in by customers, such as this model called the Riverwoods Companion that was designed by forum member jds1 -

The little RWC has become my favorite knife for cutting up tenderloin rolls -

John also makes a wonderful little knife called the Kentucky Fieldmate, a design by forum member kyturkey -

You might have noticed, I like Maple Burl handle scales, but John will make any of a number of woods or micarta/g10 etc.

Here is a picture of some of my other JK knives -

John's motto is "Your design or mine." I think his most popular in terms of number sold is the very versatile Kephart model, following is a link to a recent thread in John's forum here at Bladeforums showing many members Kepharts -

I have only one Busse - a Stealth Monkey (DSSF). I have not used it for anything but admiring, and it is a very nice knife.

best regards -
