Top of the List

Even though I try to keep my shop as basic as possible, I really would like to get a HT oven and a bead blasting unit, but what I do NEED right now is a new belt grinder with a velocity control unit.

A winning lotto ticket so I could do away with my day job and focus more time on knifemaking.

After that it would be a HT oven, horizontal grinder, rockwell tester and a rotary table and DRO for my mill.

Took one more item off the list today when I brought home my new Hardcore disk grinder that I bought from Steve Ryan :)

It would have to be a CNC like Kits. a blond with brains to run it.
well I can run it and just watch her.

Higgy, you are thinking too small.#1 on my list would be a water jet cutter. Then my band saw could become a rack for used belts.

Now THAT's a darn good idea, Stacy! Man, those things are expensive

Anyone know how much?

Oh btw... that Wellsaw in my original post goes for $3995. Big bucks for a small saw, but what a saw it is! ;)

Higgy,They've got a nice one on Ebay for $85,000.It only has 20 hours on it and comes with extra stuff, like 8 tons of abrasive.Start rolling those pennies!

I just did a search and found out something interesting. At Yale arcetectural school, after taking the training class on water jet machining, you can log time on their jet for 50 cents per minuite.Might be worth checking local universities?

My list is VERY short.....but one of these would just make my day....
Air Hammer

Both of my Little Giants are up for sale, in hopes of gathering the funds for one of these!

Thoght i'd drag this back up.....my #1 want was achieved through knife sales last fall as I acquired the KMG. This christmas I then acquired a metal cutting bandsaw (best timesaver yet)...

My list is fairly short ATM as I am focusing on putting out as many blade as time allows...

The #1 thing I feel would be fantastic to have would be an evenheat oven. I cant see it in my future anytime soon, but its on my wishlist!...that and a tree that drops sets of scales from it every morning.

What would, in your mind, help you acheive what you want out of your knifemaking career/hobby?

The only thing I really need is more patience. I don't have enough patience to clean up all those pesky scratches:( Takes me forever to sand all those things out and no fun at all!

still waiting for harbor freight to put knife making skills on 10% off cant wait to get my hands on some :D
realy next is a kmg and some tooling for my mini mill

I'm still waiting on my wellsaw. Higgy clause has been pretty slow passing out everybody's requests. Rat bastid hasn't even posted one going for cheap on Ebay!:p

Time and people to line up right so I can get my grinder build finished. Then I can get to work!

First on my list is house and shop plans, I figure after the trouble of getting the plans the building should be the easy part.

More dies for my press, still playing with it and finding out what it can and can't do. Got enough power it likes to shear welds, finaly learned to take small bites!

I get all my recent orders finished I might, maybe hopefully be able to afford a KMG.

Then a power hammer. I like Clay Spencer's design, hope he'll get plans out or have a class where and when I can attend.

Then a HT oven, if only for controlled thermal cycles on carbon steel.

While I'm at it how about a rolling mill?:D

A sherline 5400DRO, 4400DRO, and a KMG. I wanna give this knife making a try and most of my ideas would be easily taken care of with those tools. You guys who are into forging and metalurgy...well...you're too cool for me. I don't think I could ever get into metal production like damascus and forged blades. Maybe if I can get hold of these tools it'll lead me to a forge. Who knows.
