How about the FG-42?

thats the german fallschirmjeager rifle correct??

my dad used to tell me about a rifle the german paras used (he was in italy) with the mag mounted sideways and i thought he was nutz (back in the '70s) - my dad thought it was a helluva rifle, select fire, 20 round mag, 8MM calibre. he and a few other guys fired one one afternoon.

as far as 10 worst the chaucheux (spelling??) would sure be on that list. some of the italian bolt rifles circa WW11 werent so great either.

10 Worst? hmmmm... Although I like them perhaps the Krag? They were a big step up over the Trapdoor Springfield but no match for the early Mausers. Krags do have a wonderfully smooth action though.

I hunt with a sporterized Krag occasionally and it never fails to be a topic of conversation when I meet fellow hunters in the woods.

I agree with the ak-47 and the M-16. The M-16 mainly lacks in one category while the ak-47 mainly lacks in one also. I think the M-14 is also a great rifle it just came about a little late for it's intended role. There are still a lot of people carrying M-14's into battle and seems like they will for some time to come. Now if only the army would shell out the cash for new barrels......

Well, I for one as a previous HK owner can see why the G3 wasn't included in a review board of, ahem, European descent. Most of the battle action on record for that weapon has been Africa or the 'Stans.

Not bloody proper warfare, you see, you have to have battles as large as Kursk to justify the inclusion.

I believe machine guns played a very important role along with the German artillery.

The garands stripper clip would make a loud ringing noise upon ejection, not when it hits the ground. Though it could warn nearby enemies you were out of ammo, chances are they were too far away to hear anything, espically in the noise of a battle.
