I set out to create a Top 3 list....which quickly became a Top 5 list.... ...then a Top Ten list.....:foot:

:D

Personally, I wouldn't mind having one of every product H.I. makes....but since I don't own the bank, or have a vault...what do you think would be the Top Ten Must-Have khukuris/knives that would make a good overall setup?

Here are mine, in no particular order:

15" BAS
Kerambit
14" BDC
Pen Knife
17" Fox Folly
Seax
M43
YCS
Khadka Bilton
BGRS

Honorable Mention goes to the ultra-limited Samsher....something I personally want in a very bad way...but I don't necessarily think that it's a Must-Have for everybody.

What are your Top Ten?
(do your best to keep it ten!!! )

17" Foxy Folly
Kerambit
Pen Knife
Seax
BGRS
21" Chitlangi
Malla
Bowie
Sarge
14" BDC

Honorable mention to:
WWII (this is a standard, and would have to be #11)

All in antler if possible, or perhaps Rhododendron or Karam...or Chandan...or...

20" villager AK (blued)
Villager Pen Knife, wood-handled
jange
Kumar Karda, carved horn handle
Villager BGRS
UBE
20" UB memorial salyan (or was it 18"? have to check)
16.5" WWII, wood handled
18" WWII
Sher 'attitude'

I'm sure I've left a couple of favorites out. Little sluggish this morning.

Gread thread, Dan...

14" BDC
Foxy Folly
18" AK
20-22" Chit/Chainpuri
Bura Movie Model
Everest katana
25" khuk-of-your-choice, I have three
the Mighty JKM, available in many flavors
Seax
Sarge

dang, this is tough... :foot: No room for 15" AK, AK Bowie, 20" AK, many other very, very good things... Hey, the Kumar Karda! or YCS... and if you don't have a medallion, well... you're just not taking this seriously...

Ad Astra

Wow, only ten? I couldn't narrow a must-have list down to only ten, I'd be leaving out too many great choices. I agree with all of Dan's choices, but I'd still have to add another dozen or so.

Instead I'll post my most used list:

JKM-1 (hunting)
Kumar Karda (fireplace kindling-splitter)
15" AK (go-anywhere khuk)
18" Gelbu Special (light backyard duty)
16.5" WWII (heavy backyard duty)
Pen Knife (butchering)
16.5" Chiruwa AK (at-work duty)

I also added a Sarge knife to my hunting pack this fall, but I did not have the opportunity to disassemble any deer with it so I can't give a report on it yet.

I'll second the "good thread" comment Dan!

In no particular order here's mine:

1) 21-22" Chitlangi
2) YCS!
3) Foxes Folly
4) 14" BDC
5) Malla
6) 18" WWII
7) 17-18" BGRS
8) 20 or 25" Kobra (depending on your size / strength, etc.)
9) M43

and chickening out on the last one here because they handle so similarly:

10) 15" AK OR 15" BAS

If hard pressed I really think a 16.5" Chiruwa AK is more all around useful than a 15" AK, but I wanted to get #10 in with the nod to the BAS.

There's only about a dozen more that should be here, including the Kumar Karda, the Sarge and the YCS Karda, but the latter is implied in the YCS.

(Maybe we should make this a "Top 25" list? ;) )

Norm

Hmmmm.........

Kerambit
18" BDC
18" Gelbu
M-43

For now that's it.....Must wait to see what new models come out this year :D

I like Raghorn's idea.

Most used currently:

15" BGRS villager.
17" Foxy Folly.
20" Jange.
16" "Satori Special". (Review forthcoming.)
Sarge Knife. (A must.)

There's also a 15" chiruwa somethinerother from Karka that would make this list easily if the handle were a bit thicker and I didn't already have two outstanding performers in this size. Right khuk, wrong time.

Most used in the past:

20" Siru.
16.5" AK.
20" AK. (Somewhat specialized.)
17" WWII villager.
25" Kobra. (Very specialized.)

Although to be honest, I could generate a top ten list based on the swords alone. It's kind of a loaded question. :)

OK, this is a toughie:confused:

AK bowie
Sarge/KPH (or the Corporal in my case)
Seax
YCS
Kerambit
WWII (18" or 16.5" what eva flava)
M43
22" GRS
Pen Knife
A villager model (real steel fittings)

Really, i could jockie a few around in there. Actually, it would be tough for me to narrow it down to 20:eek:

Jake

AK Cleaver
22" BGRS
18 AK
18 WWll
18 BDC
20" Chitlangi
25" AK
20" AK
Sher Attitude
Hanuman

Now, about this list, it does change, you know...

I wouldn't give up my Cherokee Rose for nothing.
And the first Villager of 18" and 28 ounces... would be grabbed

I wouldn't give up my Chiruwa AK either...

So, maybe a more realistic list would be maybe the first 6 or 7 and then whatever DOD that came by I wanted and could afford.

munk

The swords will have to wait until the Barbarians are at the Gate.

I'm surprised no Sirupatis made anyone's list so far. To me this is the "best all around" khuk when in 16" or 18".

I like the idea of a top three list, for a good overall setup.

Mine would be ...

17" Foxy Folly
18" Sirupati
Sarge

~ b

off the top of my head,I would like to add these to my collection...

Dui Chirra
20" AK
Kothimoda
kerambit
15" Sirupati
25" Kobra
Napoleon sword
katana
UBE

To make it ten, how about the "Gimli Special" 25" AK?

Dan this is awfully hard to do. I'm wondering how many weeks you thought about it before coming here and posting it and wanting us to just jump on the wagon without having the weeks you took to make up your mind. :p :grumpy: ;)

Also in no particular order....

1- 17" Foxy Folly heavier than the 24 ounce like my prototype which is 31 ounces IIRC. A 28 ounce would've been perfect!!!!

2- 17"- 18" BGRS.

3- 22" Chitlangi.

4- First run of the YCS that was smaller than the current offering.

5- Manjushree Sword.

6- Kothimora.

7- 14" BDC.

8- 18" Old style AK like I have.

9- M-43.

10- Any 17"- 18" Villager in the 26-30 ounce range. :D

12" AK
15" Sirupati
15" Bura Special
15" BAS
17" Sirupati
19" Chitlangi or Chainpuri
(I have both)
22" Chitlangi
Kumar Karda
Pen
Manjushree sword

But, I need a 12" Sirupati (rare wood handle), since I gave one to a friend.

I have been thinking that I "need" a WWII, but does anyone "need" all these Khuks?

Man this is a tough one!

Here they are in no particluar order
1. M43
2. 18" sirpate
3. 16.5" WWII
4. 18" BGRS
5. Dui Chirra with full tool kit
6. 19-20" Jange
7. BAS
8. 15" AK
9. katunje
10. 18" WWII

I must admit, right now the M43 is my favorite and go to "boonie" tool, but I can't really think of a khuk I don't want, as long as it has a wood handle.

Tough call big Dan, when asked if I prefer blondes, brunettes, or redheads, I typically answer "yes". :D

Sarge

Dan,

Are you keeping count of the votes for each particular model? I think that would be very useful to see which ones are the most popular.

1.18" BGRS, 28 oz.
2. 18" YCS no more than 33 oz.
3. 18" Tin Chirra, 28 - 30 oz
4. 17", 24 oz. Foxy Folly
5. 20", 28 - 30 oz. stretched Foxy Folly
6. 20" new Jange
7. UBE
8. Dui Chirra with full tool kit
9. 18" - 20" AK
10. 22" - 23" GS, Chitlangi, or Sirupati not over 32 oz

Sarge/KPH
Kumar Karda
12" PK
15" BGRS
16.5" Chiruwa AK
17-18" BGRS
21" GS
21" Chitlangi
22" GRS
25" Kobra

Well that's my list for ten HI products that give an overall set of different sizes and overlapping/specialized uses.

Bob

Great thread idea Dan,
My present TOP TEN LIST would stand as follows.

1. Falcata by Sanu
2. Foxy Folly, long lean model
3. 20" AK by Sher
4. M-43
5. 17" Foxy Folly
6. YCS by Sanu
7. 14" BDC
8. Kerambit
9. JKM
10. Sarge knife

This selection gives me a tool for every function. From zombie slaying to deer dresseng duties to wood chopping and SD.
Some are loved just because they are soooo darn nice.
