We're discussing "traditional knives" here in this thread and forum m-d which is why there's no mention of those companies and their offerings.

They are on topic within the "General Knife Discussion" forum.

Well....... just wanted to make sure everyone knows that Spyderco, Kershaw and Cold Steel have been producing "traditional folders".
My opinion lays with BUCK, CASE and QUEEN as the best mass production traditional manufacturers for my $$$. :D I must say that I do have some Kershaws, and 3 Spydies that I adore-but they are borderline traditional.:)

CASE
GEC
QUEEN/BÖKER tied there. Queen can produce an astonishing knife but also sad to say, some very under par stuff lately...Böker's recent offerings have impressed me a lot.

GEC
Queen (and variants)

The next in line are quite a way away :) Personally, I prefer the character of the Queens to that of the GECs

I had a hankerin' for a soddie or two, so I just ordered two Country Cousins, and a lg stockman in curly zebra, all D2.
From what I read here, I'll be spending some time with my sharpening gear. 's OK; I can use the practice.:D

GEC/Northfield/Tidioute - Major pros: Workmanship, dedication to bringing new/old patterns back, wonderful handle materials. Major Cons: need to release more elegant, less-beefy patterns

Queen/S&M - Major pros: Workmanship, wonderful patterns (including the nicest production whittlers out there). Major Cons: The vast majority of Queen's blades are D2 (and shipped with thick edges) - a turn-off to us Arkansas stone users.

Case - Major Pros: Variety, Variety, Variety. Major Cons: Not enough of their knives come in their wonderful CV steel.

I think I might substitute Case with Canal Street Cutlery, if I owned one. From what I've heard, Major Pros: workmanship, built up from the ashes of Schrade. Major Cons: weak springs.

Difficult question as some companies have multiple lines. For example, I now refuse to buy mainline Queen knives because of their grinds, but I love my Moore Maker stockmen made by....Queen (go figure).

So, I will not go by cutler, but tang stamped maker.

1. Northfield (from Great Eastern Cutlery).
2. Moore Maker (from Queen)
3. Canal Street Cutlery

Honorable mention would go to Tidioute from Great Eastern Cutlery. Now, I will admit that I am biased. I do not currently own anything from Schatt & Morgan.
