Survival Necklace
Firestarter (with can opener striker) and Whistle
IMG_3024.jpg

The ferrucium rod will work even when completely soaked with water. It Contains: Mischmetals Iron, Magnesium, Cerium, Lanthanium, Cerium, Neodymium, and Praseodymium. Two of the rods are magnesium, which are fast burning and ignite very hot. All 3 rods are not glued in but pressed into a 3/4" Aircraft Aluminum machined barrel.

I was surprised at how light the firesteel and magnesium bars were together.

The survival necklace includes the famous Military P-38 steel can opener, which makes an excellent steel striker on the rods, saving your knife blade.

Included is a 30" long Military Style Ball Chain which holds it all together.

TOPS Survival Whistle
Ultralight, high density black plastic. This whistle is very LOUD!!!!

Dog Tag Signal Mirror

Small and extremely light, I have been woods bumming with this signal mirror and it is now a permanent fixture on my hiking necklace for day hiking, backpacking and jungle living. Rubber silencers just like the troops wear. This is another, must have item that can stashed in your various kits.

TOPS Folding Saw
IMG_3018.jpg

Specs:
Blade Length: 4"
O/A Length: 7" Opened
Handle Material: Kydex Folding Handle
Red Powder Coated saw blade.

I will always have a soft spot for the saw on a Swiss Army Knife but this little saw is a nice cutter that can also be used as a firesteel scraper. There are many uses for this kind of folding saw. It’s the kind of item you can get a few of, and stash them in different places like a car kit, BOB, backpack, and just in your pocket. This little saw cuts bone, frozen meat, wood, PVC, copper, aluminum, and hard rubber.

TOPS Light
IMG_3033.jpg

Bright LED light with a versatile metal clip. This light is bright and perfect for quick walks through camp or reading in the dark. It can be clipped to the bill of a hat which is my favorite way of using it.

looks like a good basic level kit...i don't think i'm too fond of the pouch-the hanging straps look like they would let the pouch flop down and i don't really like velcro as a primary fastener...

but it does look well put together and that three rod system is interesting.

Thats an neat kit. Ive looked at those neclaces before, like the rod combo.

Those belts are great. I wear a blackhawk riggers belt almost everyday.

An interesting starter kit.

I've found that many of these survival kits can be put together cheaper than what they're being sold for.

This particular model would be a good deal for $25-30. Much more than that and you'd be better off heading to a mil-surplus or camping store.

Man, that's some cool kit!
I thought about doing a saw blade with the Kydex. Should have gotten on that one quicker. I did my wife's house key like that and it works great.

I like that mirror and whistle. The only thing I don't know if I would get along with is the velcro.

Nice stuff, Bear'.

Hey, I think he's gone off to Peru today!

Eh. Looks ok, but folks could do a bunch better with making their own. Especially with what looks to be a made in china bag. Anyone who's even done moderate woodsbumming should know that velcro is terrible as a fastener, especially 3 small strips like that.

Stage2: Are you kidding? I have velcro on half my woods gear, with no issues.... The bag looks prefectly acceptable, reguardless of where it is made, the design looks like it wouldnt be awkward when combined with other gear.

Bearthedog: Found all the items on their site, but not the bag...? what was the price range of it?

Call Mike or email him and say that you want the same bag he sent to Reuben (bearthedog) he will be able to help you. I have heard from a few people that it's not on their website.

Reuben,

Mike sent me a bunch of items similar when he sent the Tactical Steak Knives. I love the E&E belt. I wear it most of the time.

I can only speak from my experience (and it seems I'm not the only one with this experience). Velcro is pretty substandard as a primary fastener. There are a couple situations where it should be fine, such as a small pouch or when there is a massive square of velcro. However for something like this, where it is not small, and there are only meager amounts of velcro its not sufficient.

There isn't anything stopping them from putting velcro along the entire length of the pouch other than the fact that they want to save some money. After all, they put snaps on the back, there isn't any reason why they couldn't and shouldn't be on the front.

Your survival kit isn't any good to you when its contents are scattered all over the ground from that hanging branch you passed 30 minutes ago.
