Price is about the same only real difference are the steels 5160/1095. Which would you folks choose as a dedicated chopper

5160 is a tougher steel IIRC. But esee has a better warranty. I would buy the esee.

I would get the ESEE because they're on the forum and the Junglas is about as good a pattern as you cold ask for (relatively thin, large blade).

Whot? Not this forum.
I've always wanted to try thoe Power Eagle, so I'd choose that one. However, the BK9 is nothing to sneeze at either. ;)

The Power Eagle is 12" vs 10.5" of Junglas. The blade shape is taller on the PE, so I'd imagine the weight will be greater, therefore more powerfull of a chopper.
I own the Junglas, and other 12" choppers. Even an Ontario 12" Cutlass machete chops with more power than the Junglas.
If TOPS has done the right HT for their 5160, then it seems to me that it would be the better chopper.
I don't think the Junglas was made to chop wood, it was made to cut down marijuana and coca plants. It's made well, nice and pointy, excellent sheath and handle.

For a little bit more money I went with Bruce Culberson, I love the Bolok, and it's an excellent chopper! Next to my Ontario and Junglas....

If I were to pick one myself, it would be the Junglas. However, the PE would most likely be a better chopper as it is longer and appears to have more weight forward. Or you could do as Foxx recommended and spend a little more and get a Culberson.

I don't have the Tops but I do have a Junglas. It is an excellent large knife. The overall design is very useful and the sheathing system and warranty are exceptional. I would not consider it a dedicated wood chopper though. It is pretty well balanced and not forward heavy enough for really good chopping. I'm a fan of the thicker blades for chopping. Bark River Golok, Ranger RD-9, etc.

I have the power eagle and the rtak2 but not the junglas. The power eagle is more forward weighted than the rtak. It chops slightly better than an rtak, better than a trailmaster, almost as good as a cs kukri. the junglas sheath is superior. The power eagle sheath is equivalant to the rtak2 sheath. I think fit and finish on the power eagle may be equal to the junglas if they are both made by rowan. The power eagle stock is 1/4 while the junglas is 3/16th.

the junglas is one of my favorite blades but its definatly more combat oriented in its design and thats what randell designed it for

Wrong (in content, punctuation, and spelling).
Nice insulting rant post though.
