TOPS Silent Hero vs. Esee 6?

I've been in the market now for a larger fixed blade that is of good quality, but under $300. I'm not really looking for any heft choppers, but I do like at least a 6 inch blade for my one tool option. Basically, I'm just looking for a field knife/companion blade for my outings/backpacking into the woods.

After researching for nearly 2 weeks, I believe I have settled on the final two contenders.

I'm really loving the blade design on this. I've always been a huge fan of spear points and I believe that this would be a very useful tool in the bush. The only downside I keep reading about is the handle might be a little on the slimmer side. But, I'm sure with a nice wrap, that can be improved.

The Esee 6 has the overall design that I love. Good, sturdy drop point blade that has more than enough reviews to sing its praise. I've seen you can customize the scales from TKC, which I might end up doing.

Does anyone have any first hand experience with either of these? I've played around with the Esee 6 and really enjoyed it, but the TOPS Silent Hero has really caught my eye - sadly, there are too few reviews on the Silent Hero.

Any ideas on which I should choose?

I'd go with the ESEE. Every time I take a different blade out, and leave the 6 at home, I regret it.

I was tempted on leaning towards the Esee as well. They both just look so darn useful for my exact tastes and style of camping/bushcrafting.

(Honestly, I'll probably end up getting both. Just can't let my wife get too mad about it, lol.)

Got to play with an Esee 6 again today and I have to say, it is a wonderful blade. Make quick work of some fire prep and camp tasks. I'm still incredibly tempted on getting the TOPS Silent Hero as well.

Tough call. I had the ESEE 6 and a few others in this size range. I sold the ESEE because I never got a "made for me" feeling from the blocky handle. I also never felt under knifed' with a slightly shorter ESEE Laser strike or SW Ratmandu. But between the two mentioned, the Silent Hero gets my vote because it reminds me of the Laser strike and the SYKCO TRASH, which are knives I know Santa is bringing on bye sooner rather than later. Silent Hero all the way. I doubt you'll be disappointed with its quality, materials, heat treatment, warranty, or looks. Whats not to like? Merry Christmas everyone :-)

Merry Christmas!

Thank you for the advice. The Silent Hero is gorgeous and I would love to have that as my main blade. I'm still having a hard time deciding, lol. It may end up coming down to a coin flip. Although, I might have access to a TOPS Silent Hero next week. If I do, I'll hold off my purchase until I can get some playtime wit that.

Well, I just bit the bullet and ordered a TOPS Silent Hero (smooth handle) as it just came back in stock on BladeHQ. Can't wait to try it out and put it through its paces.

I know I will probably be ordering an Esee 6 in the next few weeks to months as well. Merry Christmas, everyone!
