TOPS Street Scalpel.

Isnt the TOPS street scalpel a small fixed blade? I had a protege for two or three years. It folds

Correct me if i'm wrong about the TOPS Street Scalpel.

My Protege crapped out on me (I'm really hard on my knives) and I was looking at the Street Scalpel as a replacement because it's compact and I won't have to worry about stupid thumb studs, yes the Street Scalpel is a fixed blade but a rather small one. If anyone has any other ideas on a GOOD folder or small fixed blade I'm open to suggestions.

What are you going to use the Street Scapel for, though? I think the knife uses 1/4" stock, which makes it pretty thick. Really good for stabbing and poking because of the thin, sharp tip, though.

Utility.

Any thought or advice on a knife would be appreciated, but I want something small.

have you looked at a Emerson La Griffe?
(Perrin original would be better but more expensive, CRKT Bear Claw is bigger handles & cheaper but steel not as good). Small useful fixed blade, fits in pocket, very secure in hand for self-defense - MUCH more so than the street scalpel, I'd say. But I advise you handle one before you buy, to see if it's for you.

I dont like the fit of the Lagriffe, the bear claw is nice but I'm worried about the blade curve.
Any thoughts on the Spyderco Native or CRKT Streetshark?

King Tut,

I have a Spyderco Stainless Native II, with the 40% serrated blade.

That IS one GREAT little folder. If you don't have one yet, I suggest that you obtain one as soon as you can.

I think you're referring to the CRKT "Urban Shark". If so, you can find several reviews by using the search feature on this forum. If heavy-duty is what you're looking for, you might also want to look at CRKT's Crawford/Kasper KFF. Those that've handled them say they are rock solid and very hefty in the hand. In the middle, in terms of size, the CRKT Point Guard's look great. One of them will be my next purchase.

I really do like the point guard. It is a well
built knife for the price. crkt is making so
kick ass blades!

I have a street Scalpel. Its pretty heavy for a "neck knife" But i wore it as such for a while on duty(L.E.). Its well built, but almost too thick. Its blade has a very rough looking grind but came shaving sharp. So far I have had it for about a year and only had to re-sharpen once. I only use it around the house know because it fell out of the sheath one night while running ( a little uncomfortable!). Know looking for something lighter and thinner, possibly a Newt Livesay. Anyway just my 2cents.
