Hey there bladesters,

Ok, so I was looking for a specific type of knife recently. I wanted a lot of tip strength and stoutness in the blade. I didn't want an edge really over 4" with a balanced over look to the knife. I noticed that in my searches this lead me more towards an American-ized tanto style blade. However, I'm not a huge fan of the extreme squareness of that style tip. I wanted it slightly rounded. In my Google image searches I came across a knife designer named Shane Sibert. He had the exact style I was looking for but his website says he really isn't taking orders currently and the price (although I'm sure is worth it) was higher than I could give up right now. When I searched his knives I found that he did a knife for Tops in the past called the Sudden Impact. It was perfect for what I was looking for so I was stoked. I was bummed when I found out it was discontinued, but then Ebay came to the rescue and I found one BNIB for $135 shipped. WOOT! Needless to say, I got it in and it feels great in hand. I look forward to getting it used and looking less like a new blade.

Here's some pics:

Anyone else own one? I didn't really see any reviews on this particular knife and no it is discontinued so they probably aren't that popular.

Well a very bad storm blew through yesterday shortly after my post above (hail and high winds with very bad rain). I had some neighbors loose some large limbs and plenty of debris. I decided to take the sudden impact for a little work out. Cut up a bunch of branches to smaller sizes to fit in wheel barrels and fire pits. Larger limbs were handled with saws. Cut a piece of damaged gutter that was hanging for my neighbor, etc.

I like the blade shape on that one. It reminds me of an old CRKT folder I own (Greg Lightfoot design, don't recall the model) with a somewhat rounded tanto look. As a side note, Shane Sibert also designed the Benchmade Adamas, which also has the skeletonized grips. I dig some other Tops knives and might have to keep my eyes open for a Sudden Impact.

Inazone,
I highly recommend it. Very comfortable in my hand and cuts very well. They called the point style "hunter point" but to me it just seems like a modified tanto.

Ok so Friday and Saturday were spent camping. I took my BK9 and the Impact with me. The Tops did very well with basic camping chores. I like the versatility of the sheath (you can rotate the spring steel clip so you can carry it traditional or scout or whatever you want).
