Finding some quality stuff recently:

The Tracker could have been a great knife had they done some things differently, I really like the dimensions and the handle feels great but the edge geometry lets it down.
I'd like to have seen it outta 3/16" stock with a full flat grind, same dimensions.
I loosely based the knife I'm currently having made around the Tracker although when ya see it I doubt you'll make much of a connection !!!!:D

i felt the same as you pit, i love how the handle feels but its to thick and pricey for me to pick one up

Wait till ya see the knife I'm having made, I believe the maker, Mark Wohlwend, is gonna make a few so there should be some come up on the for sale section !;)

Pitt have you ever tried an HI khukuri for chopping duty?

No I haven't buddy although I did get to hold fellow forumite Loriens and they are beasts for sure. As much as I'd like one I don't really think I'd carry one very much due to their size. I actually manage to chop or split most of what I need when out and about with my 5" bladed JK Hiker.

If I have serious whacking to do, I'll bring out my Wetterlings axe.

That is the UGLIEST knife I have ever seen. Period. :jerkit:

LOL, I'm sure there are some around more ugly......well maybe not !:D

As for an axe, I'm usually reluctant to lug a large knife around the woods so an axe is outta the equation for me !

I hear ya,they are heavy beasts, but I love them. I find a broad bladed khuk to be a bit more versatile than a hatchet.I was just looking at the tops tracker and comparing it mentally to my 16" chiruwa Ang khola. :D

No real comparison, a Khukri would out chop the Tracker by a mile !

How does the knatchet chop in comparison to the tracker?
It seem you have a deep love for fatwood getting Pry-cleavers Keep em comin'!

The Knatchet does everything better, it's only 3/16" stock and real well tapered so it bites in deep with every hit. It's also more accurate, the Tracker is like using a club !!!

thats a totally biased response:p

What about a hatchet? In fact, Tops makes a few.

I guess it all depends on what your specific needs are eh, for me I chop the odd bit ( Ok quite a lot) of Fatwood, split the odd bit of kindling and rarely chop down anything larger than an inch in diameter. It was around these needs that I designed my Knatchet and to that end it does evrything I'd hoped for and then some.
I'm pretty sure I can also get along fine with a heavy duty knife with a blade around the 5"-6" mark it may just take me a little longer.

I had my tracker reground so it has a hollowground knifelike edge instead of the hatchet like one it came with. Cuts like a motherf'er now.

I wouldn't like it in 3/16ths I prefer the 1/4" I prefer to let the weight of the knife do the work as opposed to armspeed/strength. Thats why I also like my BK2.

With the re-ground edge it is a much better knife.

I scored mine with the hedgehog sheath for a killer deal. I would not recommend ANYONE buying one of these full price and using it unmodified.

Mine will cut great, I just find it isn't the all round knife that it could have been !

While the Tracker is'nt my style,I can't help but notice the sweet edge you have on it.That baby appears to be sharp!
