A search for Tora on this forum should turn up what has been said here before. One of the owners was recently banned from this forum.

By most accounts Tora markets good knives.

This thread will be watched carefully. We don't need another international cross-forum flame war.

Andy,
They make some pretty good stuff. Uncle Bill always figured "Live and let live" and never trashed a competitor's goods. It's a shame that everyone isn't like that. Some of the folks from Tora are good folks, but some aren't. Some constantly trashed any thing from HI, and were less than honest in their comparisons. They went out of their way to disseminate misinformation. So this is a touchy and emotional subject with many people here. You're new and didn't know this. That's ok. Just don't be surprised if there are some heated replies.:)

Steve

Andy, it's a legitimate question, just as Steve says. If anybody gives you a hard time about it ignore them.

I and a lot of other folks got pretty steamed at a previous unfair comparison, but it was a mistake that was made and then picked up by fans on both sides and then had the flames fanned (by people probably just like me at the time), and being upset I in turn said some stupid and unfair things about the Other Company. Howard helped me out of that one.

They make some good stuff. So does HI. Variety is the spice of life. No one can say they are not authentic. They have maybe a dozen models. HI has 60 or 70 last time I checked. You would never see anything like a falcata or bob white bolo or big ganga ram or tarwar or manjushri or YCS or katunje come out of their shop.

But you do see creative beauties like the Crescent Moon Sirupate and Tin Chirra and the new Highland model. It's all good, and there is room for everyone. They are evolving just like "we" are here at HI.

It's like everything else; most folks can appreciate the creative differences between the two companies. But there are diehards and extremists everywhere, and whether it's the Niners and the Rams or Dems and Republicans or Tora and HI, someone is probably going to say something extreme and dumb if the mix is right and something gets taken the wrong way. Which is why Howard is standing over this thread with a big mallet in hand...;)

(Just so you understand that the Niners Rule, we won't have any trouble! :D )

Regards,

Norm

Well if I've stepped out of bounds I apologize, sincerely. I am very new to this forum, and to Khukuris. As an avid Knife collector this new discovery has consumed me. I have been reading everything Khukuri I can find. I have found a very knowledgable group of guys here who are passionate about blades, Nepal, kamis, America, etc. I share your passion even though some are new to me. I will do some searches and read up, but I don't plan to switch teams. Especially with my eyes newly opened to Rams cause thanks to Steve and Sarge.

Thank you for your patient guidance.

Andy

No, Andy, honest questions are not out of bounds, nor are honest folks.
No one here would give you a hard time about that.

Do the search and if you have more questions let us know.

My God! This guy put yall thru hell! I'm sorry I asked, and I'm glad (now I know not to buy). I'm just driven to learn more about Khuks. Unfortunately I joined their damn forum this afternoon before I knew. Rats...

HI promotes itself through goodness and generosity as opposed to sneakiness. You guys have accepted me even though as a newbie I pissed people off in the Cantina. I won't forget it. And as for a cross continental/forum flame war, I bleed American, period.

Andy

PS. Munk, its really good to hear from you again! A

Andy, maybe I missed it, but I don't recall you ruffling any feathers.

Their forum has some good people in it, with good information. As with any internet source, including this one, you have to take some things with a grain of salt, separating facts from opinions. Often very hard to tell the difference.

BruiseLeee sells indulgences for $19.95, U.S., plus shipping. Contact him for forgiveness.

He also deals in human livers? (or spleens, I forget.)

I'm a member of their forum too Andy. That doesn't mean I suddenly think everything a few of the folks over there do about HI, or their products for that matter. It just means I love these knives and want to learn more about them, just as you are doing. They have many things that are worthy of respect and admiration as does HI. Some people said some things I hope they now regret, so time to move on.

In any situation I try to ask myself what Uncle Bill would do. That makes being a good guy as much as I can and tolerant of others a breeze... :)

Regards,

Norm

Tora is in the UK. While they have several models that are difft from HI models, on the ones that are the same or similar to HI models for me the HI models end up being much less expensive because of the shipping expense of UK to US. On the other hand if you live in the UK it's the other way round.:D

Right. I thought of that too. Plus the pound is so high now. Those threads are kinda shocking is all. Plus I've read their posts on their forum about HI and they aren't nice either. No one here said anything negative about their products during the fights, or even tonight when I posted. Thats a lot of negative marketing togo with that extra shipping charge and conversion rate.

Andy

Good to hear from you, Andy. Not to worry, stick around. We've got nothing but time, friends and fine tools to talk about.

I just had a horrible idea! There's a hidden market that HI has not even begun to tap. HI could easily double sales if they marketed to spouses.

Imagine the line up.

A HI rake for when the autumn leaves fall, with carved neem wood handle.
A HI garbage pail, made by HI coopers.
HI brooms.

The scariest part is we would probably love them when we got them as gifts!

Better not tell Yangdu. ;)
