Tora Kukri Competition

'Kohei'

It could hardly be considered good manners to post details of another-rival-companies products, special offers, competitions, etc on this forum. This is not simply a khukri forum, it is the Himalayan Imports forum.

Rusty has already politely asked for Tora information not to be posted here. I dont doubt you already know that. I've seen your user name over on the Tora forum. It is clear that you know Simon Hengle personally. I hope he hasnt put you up to this.

As is well known, I, as well as several other HI customers, come from the UK. Let me make one thing clear. My business isnt going anywhere else. Frankly I'd rather put my balls in a blender than do business with Tora.

Cordially Yours

Mike Becker

Definatly not a pretty picture! :barf:

But Bex as pure point of information you are wrong in you description of Rustys request here is Rustys quote for you to read again.

" Put up a bbs or forum on your own site for that matter.

At this point, I am uncomfortable allowing you to continue posts on the HI Forum. Until Uncle Bill returns, and is able to make decisions without having family and health matters interfering , I'm going to ask that you post your email, ( and website when it gets up )and then post elsewhere."

So it seems to me that Sirupate was invited to post the details buy Rusty.

I presume that that would then cover Kohei posting the same details?

So I must say your vitriol at Kohei seems unjustified to me.

Cheers,
Spiral

The post in full:

Sirupate:

You've posted over 30 times now, almost all of them on this forum - which is indeed the HIMALAYAN IMPORTS FORUM .

Himalayan Imports is owned by Kami Sherpa and run by family. He is over 80 years old, and his son Gelbu is assuming more of the load of the business.

One of his daughters, Yandu, is married to Bill Martino. Bill himself is ill, and has gone back home to seek medical care beyond that available in Reno.

The night he arrived back home his father had a heart attack at age 90. The latest we've heard is that in the last week Bill is finally getting around to having the needed medical workup on himself done, but it remains ongoing.

Wife Yangdu and brother-in-law Samten Lama (married to Yangdu's sister) are trying to keep things going despite a lack of experience on the computer.

I've been courteous to now. I'd appreciate your courtesy in return.

Feel free to post your webpage when it gets put up on here. In the meantime, feel free to post your e-mail address also.

Feel free to continue posting on other forums - like on the Blade Discussion Forum here at Bladeforums, or elsewhere such as on Knifeforums, or the Usual Suspect Net. Put up a bbs or forum on your own site for that matter.

At this point, I am uncomfortable allowing you to continue posts on the HI Forum. Until Uncle Bill returns, and is able to make decisions without having family and health matters interfering , I'm going to ask that you post your email, ( and website when it gets up )and then post elsewhere.

I'm not saying anything about you, simply that this is the HI Forum and you are to some extent a competitor. Thank you for your consideration.

You will of course take note of the final sentence.

Posting email and website details does not equate to posting competition info. It remains a fact that this is the HI forum.

My picturesque language relates to my strength of feeling on the matter, and to my opinion of people who lack the curtesy or the manners to which they have themselves been treated.

That isnt vitriol. That isnt even warmed up. Frankly I am p***ed off with the whole business. If Mr Hengle wants to develope his business then he should do so on his own website, or on other forums.

The HI forum is for HI products, not for any other company .

Bex and others: thank you for your defense of the HI forum. However, as Uncle Bill has orten said, "What has this got to do with Kulkuris? Everything."

I'd take exception to Simon coming here and posting his gimmick to raise interest. I don't mind a bit when a forumit posts a heads up chance at a givaway. Or something on E-bay, or on the for sale forum.

As far as I can remember, whenever there's been someone trying to compete with HI, they've ended up shooting themselves between the legs with a shotgun.

I regret the other shop in Nepal trying to sell their own products has evidently fallen afoul of a nationwide ban on exports of khuks ( I don't know how Pala gets around it ) and cannot continue to supply exports. The HI kamis need the competition to keep focused on maintaining standards.

I've never had any problem with another company providing quality khuhri. Like Rusty said, competition can do a lot to keep makers on their toes when it comes to quality.

What has really upset me with this whole business is someone else using the HI name to promote their own products. I never realised myself the effort that Uncle Bill and everyone concerned with HI had put into the company until recently. Then I read the bio page on the HI website.

http://www.himalayan-imports.com/bio.html

If anyone here hasnt read it, then I would respectfully suggest you do so now.

Perhaps the most relevant comment is this one here:

I received offers from major manufacturing houses in India and Pakistan who could make a khukuri of equal quality for a lower cost. I turned them down, telling them this would be like taking the food off my own family's table.

Dont know how I had missed it before, since I've been lurking around a few years now. More than likely I got caught up in just looking at all the nice pictures and being the preverbial kid in a candy store.

Maybe now was the right time for me to read it.

One last thing. The caliber of the people on this forum is second to non. Anyone can see that just by looking at the way everyone gathers round to offer help when someone needs it. It's long been said that adversity shows you who your true friends are.

Non of this would be possible without the efforts of everyone associated with HI. Non of this would be possible without the kami. Non of this would be possible without Uncle Bill.

My smoke and prayers to you all, (I'm off to have a shot of the 100 proof Macallan and to play with my WW2 and Sirupati. ;) )

AND the toes or you might wind up like me with several stitches in one while being thankful, very thankful that it was still there!!!! :p :D

Happened quite a while back now when I went to sleep holding the As Forged Hanuman Blade.
And I thought I wasn't sleepy, happened in an instance. Less than ten seconds can change your life forever!!!! :(

Strange as a first post !!

Not something a newbie would normally say !!

Why don't these trolls just $£%@ off !!!

I was out hunting with an old Winchester '97 16 guage a few years ago, and it started raining. I took cover under a big tree, and waited. When it became clear that no more birds were going to be flying, I decided I should ease the hammer down. 100 year old guns' hammers don't have really sharp checkering, and mixed with being slippery with rain, I lost it. Went off with the barrel pointed right between my feet. Now, granted, the reason I'd pointed it at the ground was in case it went off accidentally, but that didn't mean I was prepared for it to actually happen! Big hole in the ground, and no more than four inches from either foot--which had seemed like plenty of safety room before it went off. If I ever have to lower a hammer now, muzzle is pointed out to the field.

Love those old guns!!!! But they do bear watching for more than one reason.
A friend had a 12 gauge '97 that would sometimes fire when a new shell was racked into the chamber. Very surprising to say the least.

Me too! Have more of those than any other shotgun. Something old-worldy and modern about them at the same time. :)

Well, there's no engagement trigger safety, so you definitely don't want to be touching it when the slide comes back. If it's doing that without the trigger being held, there's a sear problem. That's beyond my skills (as I don't like pulling the old ones apart) but I know some guys who do nothing but work on antique Winchesters who could correct it.

'97's !!!

Yah hey...(Wisconsin idiom)

My first, and still much-loved shotgun (12, 30in, full)...had it 40+ years now. Only found out much later that it, and the Ithaca 37, are the two shotguns which will continuously fire as long as you cycle the action with the trigger down! I think this is what made them popular as trench, riot and police shotguns...that, and the reliabilty.

Funny place, this Forum.

:)

FYI, Kohei and Sirupate have different IP and Host addresses. I checked it out.

Kohei, welcome to the forum. We've had a troll problem recently if you haven't heard, so take it easy til folks get to know you. We all expect the troll to try to sneak back in, sooner rather than later. If you are from the UK, you aren't the troll.

As you see above, Simon Hengle was politely asked to leave as his posts were felt to be inappropriate, during a time when the person most qualified to respond,Uncle Bill, was ill and devoting his attention to care of his father rather than having his own problems taken care of, let alone trying to keep an eye on the forum.
