How would a DIY'er go about torch coloring titanium scales like this? Any tips? I'm thinking about getting a Sebenza and doing both sides, but don't want to mess up the lock bar, etc. Would the polished stainless hardware take a nice gold heat coloring as well? Thanks!!!
Do all of this at your own risk! Clean it with windex, and then wipe off. DO NOT TOUCH IT with your bare hands, it will leave finger prints. Then get a pencil torch, and wd-40. Coat the ti with WD-40, then use the torch to heat sections of the handle till it's red, then move on. DO NOT get near the detent ball with the torch, it can shoot out at you! Oh, obviously don't touch the handle. As for cooling, let it cool by itself. The way it looks depends on your skill level, and what design you make. You won't be able to get the stripes off with out sanding or blasting if you don't like them.
Thanks man!!! Did you mean handle rather than blade? I'm just wanting to do the Ti. handle scales. Do you really want them red? How red is red? Will it effect the properties of the Ti. at all? Sort of freaks me out that it needs to get that hot ya know?
IIRC there was a thread previously about a guy who was customizing sebbies like that. You may have to sniff around a bit for it. im sure someone in the Chris Reeves forum can help ya out.
