Tormek BGM-100 jig for use on a 2x72 belt grinder

The Tormek will some serious steel fast if it,s set up properly.

Have you used it to grind edge bevels? The grizzly copy of the Tormek is only $100 or so and i do like that the wheel is water cooled. Edges don't have a lot of meat on them and I imagine they heat up at the apex fairly quick. Even if on a microscopic level, if it effects performance, it counts.

I think you mean fool proof, not "full proof." Just an fyi.

Yes I have it will do this no problem. The last one was s30v,and it went fast. The key to this is to use the truing tool first and leave
the wheel in this state.( with the grooves still on the wheel) and grind your edge,it will go faster than you think, so be careful.
After you have your edge to your liking, go ahead to final sharpening with a 220 grit wheel, ect. Bear in mind this is on a Tormek.
I hope this made sense if not let me Know.

We have a Tormek that sees some action sharpening woodworking tools. But for tools that are really dull, or new with a poor factory grind I thought it would be faster to rough out the bevels on the 2X72. The Tormek jigs really help with some of the complicated shapes like fingernail grind bowl gouges. So I made up a tool rest arm with a length of 12 mm rod welded on (what the Tormek jigs slide on). After testing we re-made it with a dogleg to get the rod down near the bottom of the platen, which worked better with some of the jigs. It's is a combination that works well and saves grinding time on the Tormek.

Keeping the bubble centered is much easier than one might think. It's like most skills we use to make knives, it takes a little practice. But its worthwhile practice in this case. Its fast, accurate, adjustable and repeatable. Fred
