Torn between several folders, please help me decide

I have owned these:

1. Spyderco Military - big, light, ergonomic, and pointy -- great slicer
2. ZT 0303 - tough, strong, heavy, more of a sharpened prybar
3. Junkyard Dog II - smaller than the others, little clunky, there are better choices in a mid-sized titanium folder

I haven't owned these:

- Fallkniven PXL - seems very nice, but pricey
- Hogue EX-01 - popular on BladeForums now, seems priced well for what you get
- Fox Predator 2 - Fox makes good stuff, check out Extrema Ratio, too
- Combat Elite RRF - ??

I like your summary of the ZT. It is a knife I have admired from afar for a long time; however, the few times I have handled one in person it has left me a bit ambivalent.

I have checked out ER a bit. I really like the desert warfare camo on the MF2; however, it is a big knife (a bit too big 6" closed). I know they make smaller knives but the aesthetics of the MF2 were my favorite. I also ran across a lot variance in threads about ER. Some people loved them-others not so much.

I also explored some Boker, Al Mar, Burke, and Emerson options. A little paralysis by analysis.

One of the reasons I was considering the ZT (besides having wanted one for a long time) is feeling like I could trade it away should I end up not liking it).

Any other options I should consider?

Any other options I should consider?

  • Kershaw Tyrade -- in G10, discontinued, but easily found -- most of a ZT, but lighter weight, profile, and cost
  • Benchmade 805 -- Just got the Knifeworks special edition -- like a beefier Spyderco Military - AXIS lock is niiiiice...
  • Benchmade Rukus (615) -- also discontinued, but a well built monster folder
  • Spyderco Manix 2 -- a little smaller than some of the others you've asked about, but still heavy duty
  • Cold Steel -- if big and beefy is your thing, take a look - generally lesser quality than the others on the list, though.
