Tornado....Again

15 of them between 11 and 2 today running up US69 in Ks to KC, then across Mo in a NE direction.
Sedalia Mo got pasted. at one point there were 3 hits within 2 miles of the building I'm working in today in downtown KC.

Ya'll keep safe out there. Those things can get nasty.

Winds were freaking strong. Just had to pick up a few branches, about it. Looks to be over.

Well this pretty muchs sums this bullshit up.

Damn Trade, have some strong winds, did you? Freaking raining again here today. Getting sick of rain. Supposed to be sunny and 70° tomorrow, then rain again Saturday.

Power is back on and phones working again. We got mostly straightline winds, but heard several twisters. They kind of bounced around and touched down here and there. Nobody hurt in my neck of the woods but some barns and roofs got it.

Holy Smokes, Trade, glad ya'll are ok. Seems ours is arriving about, ...... now.

In a related bit of news, I found out that my sheath maker, Michael Volclae, or emcarrol here on the forums, lives in Joplin, MO and lost his home and most of his possessions in that tornado event.

All of us who live in or close to heavily affected areas know how narrowly we dodged a deadly bullet. Most of us probably know people who are directly affected, and unfortunately, some of us even know people who have lost their lives.

I assume that a lot of knife freaks, especially Becker knife freaks, are some level or another of survivalists. My wife and I have been "preppers" for most of our 26 years together, and took the opportunity after 4/27 to do a pretty complete "after-action report" about how well we were prepared for the challenges we faced after the storms. We came out pretty good, though definitely with room for improvement, but I highly suggest that y'all who are either in those areas or are close to folks who are, should really look at what you're seeing from the perspective of planning for the next time when you might not be so lucky to be mostly a spectator like you have been this time.

If interested, I'll be glad to post our evaluations of our preps and reactions a month ago. It might help y'all prepare, or you might just find it interesting. If it's too far off-topic, I can make another thread. Just let me know if you're interested.

In the meantime, use whatever good vibes, prayers, cosmic karma or what have you to send help towards our brethren knife knuts like Michael Volclae and others who have suffered from these storms. And best of luck for avoiding what's left of the season to you all.

It's hard to accurately describe the devastation in Joplin.
It's almost like something came through with a 2 mile wide lawn mower set a bit too low and scalped a strip of town 6 miles long, leaving behind stubs of branch-less trees and piles of twisted wood and bricks.
My cousin (house at the bottom of a hill) will be getting a new roof -- 3 houses uphill from her roofs are gone, 3 more houses up the hill, the houses are gone.
My aunt will be getting a check for her house and belongings.
They are putting up notices on the radio that the mass bulldozing of neighborhoods will be starting in a few days.
