I have a 4' torsion bar thats about 3/4" thick nfrom a 3/4 ton chevy p/u laying arround at work that I snagged and was thinking I could use it for forging material. I was thinking it may be 5160 or 1095.

Does anyone have any idea If I am right in my assumptions?

thanks

Andrew

Something to think about is that 5160 is about the cheapest steel you can get. You can get 3/4in round bars for $2 a foot from Ray Kirk. He'll cut it into 1 ft lengths to fit into a flat rate box and ship for $11. I just got 20ft for about $50. Then you will have the confidence that your really using 5160.
