Torx Bit Sizes

There's no such thing as Torx bits in metric or SAE/Standard (although this might not be true for the actual fastener threads, but I've never seen metric threaded Torx fasteners). The Torx is sized by T number, i.e. T5, T6, etc. I'm guessing the OP's fastener is defective (which happens or poorly made Torx screws) or his driver isn't to spec.

Invest in a high quality Torx driver, in sizes T5, T6, T7 and T8. Some knives use a T10 for the pivot. Sears carries decent drivers, so does Fry's Electronics. Another place is the Snap On or Mac tool truck, but they are pricey. The generic "Flea Market" type stuff isn't up to spec, and will give more headaches than anything else.

Turboscooter-- see Bill1170's post above. I have a Wave, too, and regular Torx security just don't fit. Alas. What earthly reason could Leatherman have for inflicting such nonsense on the world? Isn't it bad enough to have SAE and Whitworth and metric and all the other proprietary crudola?

Sorry, glossed over that part. Replace "security bits" with "torx plus".

Bizarre...I always thought they were were 6-point security Torx. Guess I just never looked at them close enough! I guess the necessary drivers are 5-point security Torx.

Yep, those are the ones used on the Wave. Good sleuthing. By the way, there are 6-lobe Torx Plus bits and fasteners, too. They claim to be able to take greater torque than the standard Torx pattern in the same size.

Soooo... have I got this straight-- what I need are called "Security plus?" They are the five-point drivers? My question remains: Anybody know who will sell them retail to an ordinary citizen? FYI, just to make this even more confusing, I asked the Wiha tech for a size-in-inches conversion to their size numbers. No such animal, he said.

I just looked at my Wave. It has normal (6 point) security Torx, not (5 point) Torx Plus.

The knife I am talking about is a high end custom. It seems to have T10 on the pivot, T8 on the Scales, and T6 on the pocked clip. However they are all a little loose fitting. I mean the Torx Bit in the Screw. I think my bits are off. I need a quality set!

I dug up my good set of Torx Bits and found that it was an issue of "Cheap" tools at work. The size 6 in my set fits fine and I was able to move the pocket clip. Thanks for all the suggestions.
