Hi

Is there a way to buy JUST the correct Torx key without having to purchase a big set of otherwise useless tools? AKA expensive, useless tools?

It is a size 6 Torx, right?

While I don't own any of their knives yet (I'm a spyderknut), I do have a Kershaw T-Tool, it has two torx (6 & 8) and a small philips head. It was quite cheap and fits in your pocket or on a key ring.

Just make sure you stack all the bits in the handle the same way, or they can get wedged in there between each other.

Yes, the clip screws are T6. Home Depot and Lowes both sell a small driver with four double ended Torx bits that will cover all the Torx screws on any Spyderco knife and most other brands. (T4 thru T10, plus T15) The brand the Home Depot sells is Husky and the model is HD-74502-T, believe the one Lowes sells is labeled Kobalt, looks the same except for the color. Either set costs somewhere around $7.

I'd take the Deacons advice, it'll be hard to buy a single T6 driver (im pertty sure spydies are T6 but I though for some reason they were T8) otherwise, yeah- i dont think you'll find them on there own- unless you steal them from work like I do :D

All torx screws on the Chinook are T8. Including the clip and pivot.
The Delica are all T6 except for the pivot, which is a T8.

A Torx driver set is really a good investment. Even if you don't intend to tinker with your knives, screws can loosen on their own. I've found T6, T8, T9 and T10 Torx screws on various Spydercos. Three screw clips are generally T6, but as amen74 pointed out those on some of the larger knives are T8.

Lowe's also has a Kobalt set with small Phillips and flathead screwdriver bits. You should pick that one up along with the Torx set. I've got both and they are very handy. 239384 is the Lowe's item # for the Torx set, 239400 is the item # for the Phillips/slotted set.
