Torx set of the BM Blue Box?

Don't pick up the blue box unless you don't have a Sears nearby. I bought the BB and the torx wrenches strip out pretty easily. I then bought a small Craftsman set (~12 dollars) and I've been happy since.

A few months ago someone on the forums here mentioned Home Depot, and some screwdrivers with double ended torx bits made by Husky for Home Depot, and very reasonable in price so I checked them out. There came in 2 styles with one being torx bits, and the other in combo slot, and phillips bits. Eash screwdriver being about the same size of the Wiha, and storage in the handle for 3 bits, and one in the driver itself for a total of 4 bits double ended with different size on each end. I bought a set( 1 each of torx, and 1 combo phillips/slot bits), and was very impressed with their strength, and flutes on the trox bits not twisting that I bought another set, so I have a set in the house, one in the car, and another set I picked up a week later for the back room in my house where I also work on knives.
These screwdrvers costs like $3.50 a piece, and in the 6-8 months I have owned/used them not one bit as broken or twisted. Although I also have 3 of the Benchmade kits, and some of the Sears screwdrives mentioned above I am more impressed with the quality, and strength of the Husky drivers I got from Home Depot.
I do not work for Home Depot nor have any relatives working there as like I said I got the info from right here on Bladeforums last summer.
Hope this helps for some who are looking for some excellent torx screwdrivers.
Just my .02 cents rounded off to a buck :D

I bought this set too after reading that thread (was $6 down here). I was looking for the original thread after reading this one but wasn't able to find it. I bought both the torx and the regular set and am happy with both--very well made.

I looked around for small torx bits and couldn't find the small ones ( I know where to get em now) so I ended up with a BB. Seems to work fine on my knives, hasn't stripped, but I guess it could if you really put pressure on it. I found I need 2 T6's to undo the thumbstuds (one for each side) so I picked up an add'l screwdriver type at an electronics shop.

I really like the little Benchmade kit. It's nice and portable. The only problem I've ever had with a Benchmade torx was twisting one bit like a corkscrew. I happened to have the bit in a power drill at the time, and ran the drill in the wrong direction to boot. Definitely my mistake.

Hey that was me.

I have individual drivers but mostly I use the Husky, unless I need two Torx bits of the same size like for a pivot or a spacer.

Yes, and I want to thank you for that bit of info. I have been very happy with mine, and reason I bought additional sets for such a reasonable price. Also with the extra ones if I have a pivot screw or handle screw that uses/needs 2 of the same size I have them.
That T5 bit I have in the 4 BM blue box sets I have all are either broke or the flutes are twisted, and even the one in my $50 set of Wiha bits broke BUT not any of the Husky bits have broken as yet :) Part of that being the good heat teat on the bits, and the way the drivers fit my hand so that I put the right amount of firm pressure on them so they don't break as I am a "moose" when it comes to using tools as my wife will verify, and is why she tells me when I need hand tools we are off to Sears with their great warranty :) but the Husky screwdrives have really impressed me.
Again just my .02 cents, and wanting to thank T. Erdelyi for steering me to Home Depot for those great little screwdrivers.

Reports on the BenchMade torx set are decidedly mixed, but I have had mine for about as long as they have been available and find it very convenient to carry around, given its compact size. So far, I have had no problem with it.

This discusion is very timely for me - I just broke a bit tightening up a new mini-magnum. The blue box now has thumbs down from me :barf: .

A couple of comments. First of all I do agree BM's Torx set is convenient, and a nicely packaged idea. Secondly.., the quality is not what I'd expect from Benchmade.

I do think it's important to mention that Torx started out more like a brand name than some magically over-engineered new screw head concept.., and the production of the Torx screws themselves makes a considerable degree of difference in how any given tool seems to perform with them.

In another Forum, we've been talking about this topic, and found that it's not uncommon for some T-8 screws to take a T-9 driver more snuggley, and I think that's where the BM kit is lacking. If there is some "slop" in the fit.., combined with the use of a strong thread locker (such as Red LOC-TITE), it's very possible to not get a good result.

It's also fair to say that there are no standardized "global" tolerances for "Torx" (i.e., like for a #2 Phillips).., and the differnces between cast heads and milled can vary also.

Personally I use nothing but Wiha.., as several mentioned, but I have friends who really like that $20 set that Sears sells, although I've never used those much myself.

I'd say go with a nice Wiha kit if you have lots of knives and take 'em down often.
