hey gents,

i just got a mini max (big knife!) and want to change it from tip down to tip up. does anyone know where i can find a torx wrench small enough to fit the clip screws? i tried sears, local hardware stores... nothing!

thanks.

I had the same problem trying to change the clip on my Delica4... no luck
and i'm sorry to say that it dosn't look to good either.

I'll be sure to post if Ifind something that will work
(BTW I tried small allen keys and they didn't work either)

You local Sears carries some small torx drivers for like $2.99 each. If the Mini you have is older it has two different sized screws. T6 for the clip I believe and T8 for the rest. If its a newer one the whole knife is T8 including the clip.

i wento sears and couldn't find anyhting under a T10, unfortunately. maybe i'll have to look on the net somewhere. thanks for the replies.

A few years ago I bought a security bit set from sears. It came with a driver and about 30 bits to go with it. It has security torx and hex bits, which will work in the regular screws too. They get pretty small and having the security bits has come in handy quite a bit. The set was about $25, and was well worth it in my opinion.

I have been able to buy individual Torx bits in the proper sizes at our local Ace Hardware, and sets at NAPA Automotive stores. My favorite so far is a folding Torx key set marked Titan I picked up at our farm and ranch store, which is also an Ace Hardware dealer. C'mon, guys, I live in the middle of nowhere! If I can find three sources in this little town, they must be everywhere :D

You can buy a set at Home Depot for about $7.00 or less. Tey are Husky brand and come with a handle and interchangeable bits. All of the small Torx sizes are in the set.

Had the same problem with my Manix... And though I own a million bucks in tools (according to my wife), I was unable to locate a small enoigh Torx in my shop. A quick trip to Sears fixed that. They had a few individual mini torx screwdrivers, but I opted to get the entire set of mini torx drivers. Wasn't too expensive, but not ungodly cheap either (maybe $20 for a whole set, which will last a lifetime). I actually took my Manix into the Sears store and tried out which torx actually fit the screws (because I had people telling me 3 different sizes). In any event, the set of torx solved that issue.

The Home Depot near me carries a little torx driver with several removable/reversible bits that store in the handle. I'm not sure exactly what sizes are in it, but I have used it to completely disassemble my Delica4. I think that it sells for about $8.

Benchmade makes a little blue pocket tool kit that contains all of the torx bits needed for taking apart and fiddling with knives with Torx screws. It's awesome. That's what I used to switch my Manix to tip up. I use it all the time and have never needed anything else.

I had the same problem with my Scallion, I called Kershaw, and they sent me the same week, a free screwdriver with a T6, T8, and a phillips bits. They are really helpful at Kershaw and shipping is very fast. I use that little set for all of my knives.

Got the same problem with a Onario-RAT knife. The handle screws are US standard size, good luck finding that in Europe! I try to regrind a larger bit to fit the screw but that dint work either.

I use a Torx 6 and 8 for dissembling my Delica and Meadowlark (what a coincidence;) ). Those Torx seem to have the same size in the US and Europe!

Since Torx is (I believe) trademarked, I wouldn't be at all surprised if the semi-arbitrary sizes were universal.

Unless I'm being dense, and that was sarcasm...

Oh yeah, and I second the Husky driver set from Home Depot... I have one, and the only change I'd make is keeping the extra bit (there are four bits, three fit in the handle, the fourth is apparently meant to be stored in the usage position) rubberbanded to the side of the handle.

i picked up the husky kit at HD and it solved everything. it's the perfect lil' kit for those of us with nothing better to do than take knives apart. :jerkit: ;)

Enough with the Home Depot! Go to Lowe's and get the Kobalt brand Torx kit. It is 6 bucks and all the bits are stored inside the aluminum handle when not in use. No rubber bands needed.
