Touchmark and Hot Stamp PDF

First weekend in October there is a Northwest Blacksmith Assoc. conference and I am part of a team doing fly press hands on demo. My part show hot to make a mild steel hot stamp and superquench it. . Participants, drawn by lottery, can make a hot stamp to be used in the fly press.

This PDF is a handout for the demo.
It's at the bottom of my Gallery II page and is about 800K so takes a while to load, especially if you don't have high speed internet.

Gene, what is a fly press? I looked at the pdf file and couldn't make anything out that looked like a press.

Here is a image of mine.

Mine is a Kayne @ Son press, a P-6

The wheel is wound up for about a 1/4 turn then quickly wound down, the energy built up in the wheel goes in the goes in the piece being forged, nice thing it's almost dead quiet.

The wheel handles are threaded and can be moved to any of 6 positions. Sometimes I only use one handle. If using two you have to keep an eye on the second handle so not to hit your head.
