Tough, all weather rifle--blued vs. stainless vs. stainless plus

Mike Here's a couple of pics of a custom CZ-602 375h&h mag cz's are very accurate. It's not a mountain rifle but cz makes some nice rifles that are'nt too expensive in fiberglass or wood.

Joe as a matter of fact yes Lon Paul did do the work on the 602 for me. It turned out very nice i think and it shoots like a champ. I can't recall what all he did to it but i've got some paper work some where on it. I had the work done back in the eary 90's i believe. Thanks for the comments gents.

Many great rifles mentioned in this thread! I can't believe nobody mentioned T/C! The Thompson Center Icon is a great looking rifle and quality! Or the Venture if you want a tough economical rifle. They have several different models that are SS/coated that may interest you. Prices aint bad either ;) I don't have one, but have considered them. I use a Ruger model 77 "all weather" in .264 Win Mag, and love it. Given your other thread I would opt for the .30-06. There isnt anything that caliber can't do. My wife loves her A-bolt in .30-06!

I vote for the Tikka t3, I have the 308 and love it. The action is smoooth as silk and it's light weight makes it a pleasure to carry. I consider the detachable mag a plus, as it is so much easier to load and unload. Yes I carry an extra and yes if you lose them you still have a single shot rifle. Most hunters only need one shot any way, so for non dangerous game I wouldn't have a big problem with a single shot. I do like those Shaw's, and Savage's also.

Great picture Joe... Did you use the 375 for all Plains animals ?

Actually I shot most my plains game and a croc once in Zim with 300 mags

when I was in Tanzania I carried that 375 and my heavy was a .470 nitro Double I was mostly hunting Buff so I carried the 470 and a tracker carried the .375 . If I had to shoot a bull out of a herd or a situation where more surgical shooting was required or if I came along a decent plainsgame trophy I would reach back for the 375.

That 375 has accounted for 3 Cape Buffalo and s few good heads along the way great rifle and if I was going on a one rifle hunt the 375 would be my choice in Africa

Here is my 470 This gun has killed 2 Buffs this being my best

Thats a great lookin rifle and a nice Buff...

Who made the rifle ? I like it. Looking from the side, there is some very nice symmetry going on between the forend, and the barrel rib
Whoever did the work, payed a lot of attention to detail

Mike it is a Blaser

shoots very well and has some features that I liked very much when I was shopping for a double

Thats a nice double Joe but a little heavy for deer i think. :D How's the recoil on that bad boy in a t-shirt. I guess not too bad with a mean old buff coming at you though.

To be honest Doug that is why I bought this one. The night I bought it I handled about 5 different doubles and I would have loved to have bought the Heym or Rigby but they where out of my price range one being 18 the other high 20 s. Between the ones I had to choose from Kreigoff , Merkel, Chapius the weight and balance on this one made it the gun for me. I have a beautiful little belgian double in 405 that I keep saying I'm gonna shoot a deer with but I mostly hunt with bow and slug gun in my home state. Thanks for the comments

Thats a pretty sweet double Joe. I've always read about the Rigbys, Wesley Richards, H&H, and the other english makers. The doubles sure have a rich history and i'd love to own one maybe if i hit the lottery or something. Oh well where were we oh yeah an all weather rifle.
I've got a 270 its an older remington that HS Precision put together years ago with a Zeiss 3x9 diavari-C on it. I got it at my buddies gun shop he said it belonged to a guy who used it in africa as a plains game rifle when he was alive.
It has a synthetic stock and would make a fine all weather rifle. You can see where he actually carried it by the end of the barrel where its kind of worn. Pretty cool rifle i just wish i knew what all had been taken with it.

Finally made the purchase today ... Savage stainless/synthetic with the accu-trigger and accu-stock, and box mag in 30-06. Thanks for all of the advice. Hopefully I will be able to report in with a good review from many experiences.

good choice - should work well for you.
just remember not to cheap out on the glass. :D

I think you got just about the most rifle one can get for the money, and in a great caliber choice, too.

Agreed on the glass. You can't shoot what you can't see.

Well I will be posting about the glass right now, so for those of you with opinions, feel free to chime in on that.

Great choice on the Savage WW. I have the same in .243, where I live you can only shoot deer with a rifle during a special January season. I purchased it so I can use it for Coyote and Deer. The accu-trigger is great and with the right glass you will be in! I put Nikon ProStaff 3X9X40 on mine which was what I could afford. I'll have to say that I haven't wanted for much more. I have purchased Burris and Redfield scopes for other rifles since and I do notice more clarity with those brands.
