Tough choices, help?

Gotta get some more knives for my son and me. With your help I bought my son a Buck Special. Thank you. We are looking at a pair of smaller(lenght wise) blades. For out of doors treks. We will be goimg camping in a few months and the talk of camp, wood cutting, survival type knives came up. Will also be used while hunting.


We are looking at these three fixed blade 5" knives. I don`t want to get the same knife as my son if I don`t have to.

Becker B2 in 1095 cro-van
Ontario Rat 5 in 1095
Ontario Rat 5 in D2
 
I have no experience with the Rat's, but I'm considering trying one because they seem well respected and often recommended by many here on BF. They are likely a great choice, but I'm not speaking from experience.

If they are within your budget I would recommend considering the Fallkniven F1 or S1 (4" and 5" blade respectively).

They are stout, well built knives and the laminated VG10 blades cut well and hold a good edge. I have yet to be disappointed by mine.

The A1 is also an excellent choice for a survival knife, but you are getting into a 6" blade length.

I'm sure you will get many more excellent recommendations, enjoy whatever knife you choose, and, the time you spend camping with your son. :thumbup:

BK7 and BK9 are trademarks of Ethan Becker's line of knives. Formally made my Camillus, now by KA BAR. Ontario Never made them. Maybe you are thinking of the RD9, or RD7 (if there's one..)

My beef with ontario is that they are doing some very bad things to other knife companies who once designed knives for them. I dont give my money to bad businessmen.

I screwed up, excuse me. My BK7 &9 were made by Camillus. BK 7 is NIB. :D
