Tough Decision - Paysan vs. Evo Typhoon

Hello all,

I'm having a bit of a back and forth dilemma and always appreciate your feedback here, you guys are always helpful. I know that the Spyderco Paysan and the Brian Nadeau (Reate produced) Evo Typhoon are two entirely different knives at different price points. I'm really torn on which one to get at this time, I know Brian Nadeau's knives can be hard to get ahold of quite often and Spyderco has more readily available stock. I own many flipper framelocks, but I don't own any integral knives. They both look awesome and I'm sure will be built very solidly. S90v vs. M390, both great steels of course. $375 vs. $520.

The Paysan should be more readily available and at the same time, I wasn't a huge fan of the Micro Typhoon, but I know that's a different knife entirely. I've heard the Evo Typhoon is a really stellar knife, and that one with cutouts and the japanese tanto, oh man is that pretty. This is a hard choice BF, I need your help haha. Thanks all!

I got on the Evo Typhoon pre-order, so I might be biased here, but the Evo is the nicest production knife I've ever seen. It's surprisingly light with the CF bolsters, smooth and wonderful in hand, and mine is about .013" thick behind the edge. I just don't think the Paysan competes in any meaningful way to the Evo.

Personally, if you're in that $500 range, I would look for one of Brian's Custom "Mini" Typhoons. You can find them for around the $500 price on the secondary market. It's a tad smaller than the EVO and well, it's made my him.

Apparently I will fall in the minority here - I'd say Paysan. But solely because despite mostly liking the blade on the Evo Typhoon, I don't really care for any of the rest of it. I think the Paysan is an overall very clean design. So really, I am just saying if offered a choice of either knife for free, I'd pick the Paysan.

I don't have any experience with the Spyderco, but the Evo Typhoon quickly became my favorite folder to use and carry. Design, materials, and build quality are top notch. I can't find a single thing to gripe about on it.

Thanks for everyone's input, I've heard nothing but good things about the Evo Typhoon, I guess it's tough to say since no one has the Paysan in hand whereas the Evo Typhoon is available to all that pre-ordered so far.

after some research... I definitely suggest the Spyderco Paysan... I cannot tolerate Communist Chinese knives... period... *insert old man rant here*

Research a bit more haha, the Paysans will be made in Taichung, Taiwan. And I have ABSOLUTELY 0 problems with Chinese makers. Chinese production knives are blowing a lot of American production knives out of the water, that is completely another discussion though. Brian Nadeau and Peter Rassenti are both American designers however.

That is actually kind of enticing. I will probably be selling my Large Sebenza with Micarta inlays and Millit clip to fund this purchase, honestly I just can't get into CRK's. I appreciate them for what they are but otherwise, eh.

I don't have a problem with Taiwanese knives... I love me some Taichung Spydercos

I said "Communist" Chinese...
But I love the stuff that We Knives puts out, they manufacture for a lot of smaller American designers. :( Kizer does pretty awesome too.

Well I'm going by looks alone, but I'd get the Paysan.
Ugh I know the Paysan is just so unique and I LOVE Spyderco knives. I love the Drunken and it really proved to me that Spyderco could be trusted to provide flawless fit and finish to a $400+ knife.

I'd get the Typhoon now and the Paysan the month after. Since I see the Typhoon getting sold out quicker than the Paysan. :D
That's kinda what I'm leaning towards doing, and I can decide if I like the Typhoon enough to keep it haha.
